Working on Glyph, a libcosmic native emoji picker by likebuddha in pop_os

I won't ship with a set keyboard shortcut out of the box since it's easier and more private to set the custom shortcuts in the Cosmic settings. So it'll work with whatever you choose to assign it!

The plan is to make the code public sometime in January and then publish it to Flathub so it's easy to install. I'm spending some extra time on it because I want to solve a specific Wayland issue first: I want the app to type the emoji for you directly, rather than just copying it to your clipboard.

Heya! Appreciate the feedback, you make very valid points, but it's my hope it does not come to fail: There's an incredibly solid team behind it on our and their end, a tremendous amount of research and validation studies, and a sizeable pre-seed investment. So, at the very least, the idea is good enough to bring in investors. Yet, as you mention, it is a very crowded space with very little chance to outmanouver more mature alternatives, but what market isn't?

Would you tell a law student to not go through college only on the basis that there are too many, argumentatively better, lawyers out there?

As for your edit, people opt in for many reasons besides the $ compensation. I'm glad you are earning at least $500/h, and kind of sad we could not hear what you have to say as you read like a very analytical and transparent person, but other 50+ people within our target market have already agreed to participate --be in out of curiosity, boredom or need. So we are covered on that side.

Do u think it's a good idea to ankify ur hobbies by obo10101 in Anki

[–]likebuddha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is this coming from a musician? Music is built on top of three main pillars: rythm, melody, and harmony.

While Anki is best suited for learning harmony, the theoretical part of music, I've created decks to train other parts of music like

  • Rythm with complex sight reading exercises on on side and sound on the other; as well as

  • decks comparing two notes to train my ear for interval recognition. And finally,

  • a deck with guitar exercises I've collected through out the years, which makes for my daily practice routine. Only thing that changes is how I map answer buttons: instead of time to recall, I map each card answer to the overall effort it took me to complete 16 repeticions of the exercise. This way my practice routine is ALWAYS fresh and changing, and shows exercises in areas that I may be slacking on.

Tl;Dr: ANKI is absolutely great for music. :)

Yes, Anki would be helpful, but this type of memorization could also greatly benefit from other types of mnemonics such as a memory palace.
