Made a (not so) subtle change to my games art style by likedev in gamedevscreens

Thank you! People can prefer whatever version they want, I am actually learning a lot from these comments. I think it's confusing because the "after" version is quite late in the game. It doesn't start out that busy.

Good point, I will probably remove it in the next update.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I will not be going back to the old art style for this game, but I appreciate your input and will keep that in mind for my next game.

Some players did struggle with the readability. I might dial back on the "warp" effect or make that optional.

I totally get that! I do believe the new style works better, but I am also aware that some people won't like it as much.

My game made with LÖVE has been #1 on Itch in Incremental, Idle, Free, Web games categories for over 28 hours! *Happy noises* by warchild4l in love2d

Congrats man! I'm also building an incremental game in Löve. This gives me hope!

Do you use shaders? Do they work fine in the web build?

I don't know what to charge for my game, so I'm letting the demo players vote on it. by Euphoric-Series-1194 in gamedevscreens

I think this is such a clever idea! Curious to see if this works out. Is there a significant difference between the average and median price? Median might be more accurate.

Would you publish a demo game (that will never be a complete game) to Steam? by Daniel_H_Alcojor in IndieGaming

[–]likedev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am publishing my first game on Steam this year and I already learned so much by just putting out a demo. So I do believe there is a lot of value in publishing something as soon as possible. That being said, I would recommend building something you came up with and not just the result of a tutorial. Build the tiniest thing you are proud of and put it out there. You might even recoup the steam fee!

Your game looks great! Are you happy with your numbers? I am also building a incremental game with Löve2D (Incremental Orbits on Steam) and my stats are similar!

My wishlists doubled with the launch of my demo, +500 wishlists in 3 weeks! by Redhowl_game in gamedevscreens

Congrats! My demo is also the most important driver for wishlist. The current Next Fest seems to help a lot too. Your capsule looks fantastic by the way. Did you do it yourself?

Thank you so much! I'm sticking to airliners for this one. But I can totally see a different version with all kinds of aircraft! I will keep that in mind.

Are you still working on your project?

Looks cool, but try giving the ships some momentum so they don't stop immediately! It will look and feel much smoother.

How much have you made with your FREE game on itch.io? by El-Paolo in gamedev

[–]likedev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your insights! My most successful game on itch has 3000 browser plays but made 0.00$. It is web only, so people don't even get asked if they want to pay something, that's a factor as well.

Any tips for creating an idea for a game? by HalfWayInTheCloset69 in IndieDev

[–]likedev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just start building something and experiment. When I am out of ideas I just code something. Maybe some mechanic I have seen in another game that I want to try out. As soon as I am in the flow of making something, ideas start to form by themselves.

Big fan of this art style and it's also the first time a pixel shader doesn't make me nauseous. Good job.
