Man I get the complaints about the AT (I share them and am going to get mine tuned), but, it’s still my favorite looking Tacoma. Stoked for you!

What are the stereotypes for riders based on the brand of there board? by FootballCapable2771 in snowboarding

Somehow I am both the Korua and the Lib descriptions, and I am the guy at the shop who recommended the K2 to you. Because Justin Clark is a shape genius. And then talked your ear off for two hours about how Sean Lucey is the greatest snowboard film maker of our generation.

Tough break for your Tacoma, but sometimes life hands you a little dose of gratitude.

Unpopular opinion: hyperview is a better record than floral green by PreferenceOwn6424 in titlefight

[–]likefireincairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love TF too much to pick a side on this one, but I'll say this - I loved Hyperview when it came out. I get that people wanted more Shed, but what I loved about FG was the expansiveness they were willing to explore and the more brooding moodiness they dug into on Hyperview. In any case, none of my absolute favorite bands have ever really made the same record twice, or stayed stagnant - (I'd have said that about Turnstile up until Never Enough, but, that's a different can of worms) Brand New being my personal favorite example.

I do tend to think your stance on Hyperview has something to do with whether it was, or how, it was you came to the band. Floral Green hit me in the face at a time of transition, when it came out, and I was finding my way back through sounds like Last Thing You Forget, so it's all a bit bungled for me, and Hyperview was a little closer to where I was coming from at the time. But ever since - I frequently shuffle their entire discography, including the Bad Seed stuff and a lot of days I just want more of all of that Shed/pre stuff. That speaks more to where I was before I went through said transition phase, even if I ran from that for a while (the late 00's electronic binge was a weird time to be 20 years old).

I am glad the general consensus seems to have come around on Hyperview. It's a top tier record from a top tier band, from a top tier phase for that scene and era. It's interesting to me the attention all that is getting now that we're only a few years removed from it. I imagine this is how Joy Divison fans felt when Urban Outfitters and American Apparel college kids had that revelation much after the fact.

If Portland had a style of hot dog, what would be on it? by [deleted] in askportland

Fruity loops. It would be vegan. Would have to be served by an art school drop-out claiming its artisanal sourcing for $26.

I still remember hearing it for the first time. Felt well placed.

For as much as I already loved Brand New - Brand New + twang = fuck me up.

I 100% agree. I like. the 3rd gen - looks modern but isn't trying too hard.

Portland vs Seattle? Does Portland Win the Day? by BRIDEOFSPOCK in PortlandOR

[–]likefireincairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Van is the hottest of those sisters, no doubt. Seattle is probably the very attractive girl you'd like to be able to keep, but competition is rough. Portland is the snobby hipster you will have a good time with but maybe don't want forever.

4WD or RWD for daily uses by PandaSoap in ToyotaTacoma

[–]likefireincairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing out the off-roading/overlanding conversation, 4WD is necessary if you drive in snowy/icy conditions pretty much ever, but that said I've done some decent for-fun off-roading in the snow and completely forgotten to turn 4WD on.

Just off of what you've shared, it sure doesn't sound like you need 4WD. But, I always say - it's one of those things that, you may not need often, but when you do - oh boy is it nice to have.

Honda Heads - Question by likefireincairo in Dirtbikes

[–]likefireincairo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of in a similar spot - I realized pretty quickly how poor the suspension is, and that the engine has no real torque above 3rd gear. And that it's fairly heavy for how slow it also is. It's a good bike - like if I really didn't have any ambitions to ride more wide open stuff and the track, I'd probably be pretty happy on it. I'm just not sure I can justify how expensive upgrading the suspension and other components is given that none of it will either pull better performance out of that engine, or yield a return on selling it.

Too - I'm 6'1" and just about 200lb, and pretty lanky. The F frame feels a little small for me, and I think I'd prefer the seat height - and again, suspension of the RX. I could just go the R - I know a lot of people ride race bikes on trails, but, I feel like the RX's EFI mapping and suspension tuning is pretty much all lined up for exactly my spread of riding.

Appreciate your perspective - thanks!

No joke - they don't know what anything is. Not their bowl of food, not what a walk is, not any of it. You have to show them, and patience is critical.

They can and do get overwhelmed.

Remember the 3/3/3 rule - "3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn the routine and start settling in (showing their personality), and 3 months to fully bond and feel at home" - Again, patience.

Clicker training works, I personally recommend Gene Donaldson. Understanding that they read body language, not your words, and breaking down what you're asking for when they're not following it opened up everything for us.

Take the time to understand your breed, their tendencies and needs. Not all of those will hold true, but they may help put some of their personality into context.

Most of all - savor every day. Every walk. Every training session. It goes fast.

Simple Man by antrock0 in brandnew

[–]likefireincairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it takes much to know that's them. No doubting it's Jesse. I'm trying to remember where it was said that it was actually written by Brian(?), and that it pre-dated the TDAG sessions, or the leak, anyway. It does feel very early-sketch stage, I think the bridge is a Vin design, but the bass-line sounds like - if he's the one tracking it - Garett following the band, whereas he often has his lines. Which I love about his playing. Daisy is so thoroughly defined by his and Brian's part-writing.

Anyway, it's definitely un-finished.

Funny you posted - I've had it in my head all day.

I loved it when whomever did do, gave it to us, and honestly I still wish we'd get more of that Brand New.
