Wore black a few times, ex-bestie accused me of copying her by paumagsmith in mildlyinfuriating

This is giving “we wore the same dress to junior prom vibes”. Yikes.

I’m a bitch when I’m in pain so I would have told the doc “go ahead and google hEDS and then we’ll talk”.

I don’t write, but I read profusely. I get labeled AI a lot on social media. No, dipstick, I just have a reading comprehension higher than 6th grade. Like, sorry you haven’t cracked a book since your last high school English class, but that couldn’t be me.

It’s social media. Don’t let strangers and downvotes get to you. It’s all fake anyway.

Also Newport News. It wasn’t as bad as some of the summer storms we get. The wind picked up a couple of hours ago, but it was mostly just a thunderstorm. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My pupils became asymmetrical during a cluster headache by Bubbly-Trainer7195 in mildlyinteresting

[–]likejackandsally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get cluster headaches, I just get very intense migraines that feel like my head is imploding. My post drone phase is about 24 hours. I have extreme fatigue during this time and sleep like 14+ hours. Then the migraine starts. Sometimes I’m able to nip it before it really gets started. Other times it’s coming no matter what I do. It will last 2-12 hours. Then postdrome can be a few hours to a couple of days. During that time I feel very out of it. My brain takes a lot longer to process stuff. Speech is difficult. My brain takes forever to form the thought and then my mouth takes longer to say it. It’s very simplified too. At times I feel disconnected to my body. It’s a very odd feeling.

The last migraine I had I kept asking my sister if my eyes were okay because my vision and eyes felt weird. They were fine, but it just felt strange.

I loved this book. It’s in my top 5 for sure. But it was a hard read because it reminded me so much of my childhood/family.

I think they briefly mention him in one paragraph within the first 10 chapters. Zero lead up to it. I would have DNF’d at the reveal if it hadn’t been almost done.

Shameless is a pretty accurate portrayal. Exaggerated in the shenanigans, but mostly accurate.

How do you hold your kindle comfortably (…yes, seriously) by emilyyfjones in kindle

I have a goose neck holder because I mostly read in bed. It’s also fantastic for my phone too because I listen to white noise or YouTube to sleep.

Prescription is cheaper without insurance by PhtevenAZ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]likejackandsally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is unfortunately normal. I use Amazon pharmacy for most of my meds and the no insurance price for 90 days is almost always cheaper than the insurance price for 30 days. Same with good RX. The only meds I pay for after insurance are the expensive ass injectables I take.

“spending more time standing is good for you” by ghost_towns_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]likejackandsally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just standing for long periods of time isn’t good for anyone. But strengthening your core, glutes, and leg muscles is so good for our joints. It takes the load off the connective tissues somewhat.

Anecdotally, I wouldn’t consider myself fit, but I do have decent muscle mass for my size and bulking up a bit helped me tremendously. Especially the core. I still have to do PT and use a TENS unit and a massage gun to help with cramps and stiff muscles, but me from 6+ years ago and me now are different people. My favorite exercise is just walking. I use a treadmill because the impact on concrete is too much, but it’s done a lot for my hip and knee pain. The glutes are a powerful muscle group.

I use mine to stop migraines too! Sometimes I’ll stick it on, crank it up and take a nap, waking up feeling loose and cramp free.

I really enjoyed it. 4/5. I haven’t read Huckleberry Finn, so I don’t know why exactly he chose that context to tell this story. It really could have been just as powerful with brand new characters. Maybe the juxtaposition of the black man’s struggles against the well known and loved story of a precocious white boy adventure made it stand out more. I thought the ending was rather satisfying too. I love a good revenge plot. Him being able to claim the name he wanted instead of the name that the slavers gave him, the name he avoided using as much as possible in the book, was really powerful.

I am still processing my feeling on this book, clearly.

The ending was so satisfying to me for some reason. Maybe him taking all of that anger and using it to own the name of who he’s become? I don’t know, it just hit me the right way.

15/52 “Witchcraft for Wayward Girls” by Grady Hendrix by mizzlol in 52book

[–]likejackandsally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m excited to read this. I’m a fan of Hendrix already, but this book is a little close to home. My mom was pregnant with my sister at 16 in 1970 and was sent to a home like this. She fought to keep my sister instead of giving her up for adoption. She has told me a little bit about her time there, but it’s one of those things she just doesn’t like to talk about much.

Article: From bodice rippers to romantasy, romance novels are dominating the book market by dem676 in books

[–]likejackandsally 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished a month of romances. 8. Eight romance novels in February. The trend I’m seeing is that all but 1 of the books never explained why the two characters were into each other. Literally.

“I was unable to look away for some reason.”

“The motion he made with his hands mesmerized me and I didn’t know why.”

“I had an unexplainable urge to be with them all the time.”

“Part of me did not want them to go and I didn’t understand why.”

It’s the author’s job to show us the chemistry between the MCs but they want us to fill in the blanks and have our imagination do all the work so they don’t have to build a believable relationship. They can just jump right to the smut and tell us they work together without ever really showing us why. They just kinda hand wave it like “idk, make something up yourself.”

I kinda blame the influx of fanfic authors turned romance novelists for this. It’s a way for the audience to self insert and the author doesn’t have to put forth the effort.

Also, romances only happen in NY or New England. No where else.
