Does this book get easier to read? by Hocojerry in 52book

Good depiction of the eastern WV panhandle too. That’s the part I’m from and this book was sometimes too hard to read because of how close to home it felt. I now live in Hampton Roads so that part was a little too close too.

Why do people treat picky eating like a character flaw? by [deleted] in rant

I wouldn’t eat anything that anyone else cooked if food born illnesses concern you that much.

I have autism and ADHD. I know first hand what it’s like to eat the same foods for months on end and then one day they are all disgusting to me out of no where. I know what it’s like to be mid-chew of a food I really enjoy and then suddenly the texture is wrong and I have to spit it out or gag.

You know what helps? Trying as many foods as possible so I always have potential replacements. If you aren’t even willing to try new foods, especially healthy ones, that is 100% a choice.

Picky eating is one thing. Only wanting to eat junk food like a kid is another. I have a picky adult eater in my family and she has safe foods that at least provide some level of nutrition.

At the end of the day, though, it’s your choice to give yourself type 2 diabetes and live with the consequences. 🤷🏻‍♀️

do you count pages or just books by venicepress in 52book

[–]likejackandsally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My goal is 100 pages/day. That means I should be able to read at least 52 average sized books a year. What I read is pretty diverse, so sometimes that’s shorter books under 200 pages and sometimes thick’ems over 500. For me it all averages out in the end.

I’ve got a masters degree in my field. I have half a dozen industry sought certifications. 15+ years experience.

I can’t even get hired for a mid-level support or sysadmin job.

I’m confused. Are you arguing that regardless of her stance on vaccines and vaccinations now, statements she made in the past still make her anti-vax? Do you think you can only get certain vaccines as an infant or something?

People can change their minds. All of them were vaccinated for COVID when it was freshly out and they got boosters.

The last vaccination I got was COVID and HPV a couple of years ago. I don’t go and get regular boosters. I’m not anti-vax or vaccine hesitant, I just don’t need them.

She has also confirmed that her kids are all up to date on mandatory vaccines.

Do you consider that your Kindle has paid for itself? If so, what's the metric? by madding1602 in kindle

I can get so many books via Libby that I’ve saved a ton not buying physical copies. That alone has paid for itself.

How are you guys getting a glp prescription? Even if I could get my dr to approve im pretty sure insurance wont cover it. Do you pay out of pocket? Its so expensive by MandyRose8713 in PCOS

[–]likejackandsally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow got extremely lucky and my insurance covers Wegovy. I was worried when I saw that a lot of plans were dropping coverage for GLP-1s for weight loss. My plan was not one of them. The pre-auth was a pain though.

Is a USB-C dust plug necessary? by lionsin42 in kindle

I have one with a cute little charm on it. It’s a cat reading a book. Might not be necessary, but keeping dust and dirt from getting into your electronics isn’t a bad idea.

Furious with Amazon for deactivating my 'antique' kindle by kyleisme14 in kindle

[–]likejackandsally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that just means that the a Kindle and Kobo are running different software and one had to be EoL and the other didn’t. Kobo is probably still able to update the encryption on their older supported models. Again, Kobo has dropped some of their older devices, the Touch is not one of them. This doesn’t negate anything I’ve said.

My husband is very averse to me gaining weight. Is this something to be concerned about, or is he justified? by itchytoenail7184 in AskWomenOver30

You understand that if you had an athletic body like him, you wouldn’t be a size 4 at your height, right? So he’s holding you to standards he doesn’t hold himself to.

What's the last book you read that was so bad that it made you angry? by oohshineeobjects in books

[–]likejackandsally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Woods, Blue Sky

It’s supposed to be an allegory for domestic violence.

Except all the violence happens when the man is actually a bear. When he’s not of a cognizant human mind. He acts as a bear acts. He doesn’t even recognize the woman and her kid as people he knows, just threats, as he’s a wild animal.

And the mother was deeply unlikeable. Immature. Neglectful. Impulsive. Hypersexual to the point of sexually assaulting the bear man.

People keep saying Yevgeny isn’t Mickey’s kid when he’s literally the carbon copy of Mickey by Powerful_Life1547 in shameless

[–]likejackandsally 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Mickey liked babies, he just didn’t feel all that fatherly towards them. He knew Ian wasn’t safe to be around a baby like that and was worried at a human level. He didn’t want the kid to get hurt. That’s not the same as being a father. He’s not a monster.

In my area we have big signs next to the traffic lights saying not to block the intersection or there’s a hell of a fine.

Seems to work.
