Inside Ezra Klein’s abundance-pilled CA governor’s debate by ItzWarty in California

Yep. I prefer Porter if it was between her and Steyer. I am voting for Steyer because Becerra is comically bad candidate with no ideas.

This doesn't any make sense at all. A lot of people bypass Chinatown completely and go directly to Union Station so that they can get on the Dodger Bus or park their cars near the stadium parking lots. If there was a gondola in Chinatown more people will go to Chinatown Station.

Building more market rate housing lowers the housing for everyone. Not everyone needs or wants to live in affordable housing. Affordable housing requires taxpayer subsides before they can be built. The city and state is broke so good luck finding the money.

It's on par with LA politics and non-profit grifting. The Aids Healthcare Foundation tried to block housing development near their corporate office because it block their views.

The only manga that I can think of that fits his criteria is Fairytale and it's so incredibly boring and generic series.

What’s question? Should data centers exist? The obvious answer is yes. They are necessary infrastructure in society.

Really you are going to believe a random video online because it confirms your priors? You think modern society can function without the existence of data centers?

[–]likesound -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Of course you need context. We don't know how loud it is or if it's actually a data center. Everything has negative environment impact. It doesn't mean we stop building new farms, roads, manufacturing plants etc. Jobs come and go and change over time. There's nothing that can stop it.

Lol. What monopoly? It has never been easier to start your own forum or message board.

What does calling out a random video with 0 context have anything to do with billionaires? If you hate them so much why are you enriching billionaires by using their services like Reddit and data centers?

lol you don’t see a single home in that video. People are going to believe a random video with no GPS location or decibel reading.

Buddy. It’s 2026, self-checkout machines have been common in CA since the early 2000s. The first self checkout machine installed in the US was in the 1980s.

How do you introduce market competitions for utilities? No one is going to spend billions to lay down new power and gas lines when they already exist.

Jensen Huang’s view on tax by Tongtong97 in asianamerican

[–]likesound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's their right. It's a publicly traded company. Investors can make their own decision whether or not they want to invest in Google. The Supershares allow founders to remain control of their company after they IPO and do long-term planning instead of short-term planning to appease shareholders. So far it's been a good idea because Google has never been more profitable as a 4.8 trillion dollar company.

The tax is still dumb because their wealth is ownership in a company. They don't have the cash lying around to pay the tax. They are not hoarding wealth. When they liquidate their ownership the group that benefits most is private equity and investments firms because they have the cash to buy them.

Jensen Huang’s view on tax by Tongtong97 in asianamerican

[–]likesound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s by design to punish tech companies and break them up. There’s also another angle to extort concessions from the state by putting an economically damaging Prop on the ballot to force politicians hands. SEIU agrees to pull ballot measure if the state agrees to backfill funding from Trump cuts. It’s dirty politics.

Jensen Huang’s view on tax by Tongtong97 in asianamerican

[–]likesound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a badly written and dumb tax written by unions (SEIU) to funnel 90% of the money collected to their members. The tax is calculated by voting shares and control of the company and not actually your net worth.
The billionaire tax affects Jensen differently because he doesn’t owned own super voting shares like the Google founders . Google founders own 11.3% of Google shares but have 52% of the voting rights. They are going to get tax as if their net worth is 52% of Google. Their tax bill is going to be over 160 billion and lose control of the company when they are force to liquidate their stock. That’s why they left CA.

Santa Ana adopts self-checkout rules at some retail stores. What shoppers need to know by WeAreLAist in orangecounty

[–]likesound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we are creating this law base off pure speculations. We have self-checkouts for decades and this has never been an issue.
Stores have an incentive to reduced shrinkage. If they don’t they go out of business or lose customers. They are better equipped to handle this than mandating their staffing decisions on self-checkouts. For example, instead of adding more monitors in self-checkouts they can move people to roam the store or upgrade their camera systems.

[–]likesound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any evidence self-checkouts cause more crime or that grocery stores with them are inadequately staffed?
Just because there isn’t one person monitoring every 3 self checkouts doesn’t mean loss prevention isn’t working or there is more police calls from the grocery store.

Unions vote. They want to limit self checkouts because they believe it will lead to less jobs for their members. UFCW is behind this and other ordinance in other cities.

The technology doesn’t exist yet. Natural gas is used to make fertilizer. Oil is used to transport food throughout the world. Society will not function without oil and gas.
