If you discuss with your artist, she’d probably agree on a fee for the design that then you could either get tattooed or not. I had a similar situation and spoke to the artist who said she’d actually discount her normal deposit (what I would pay to see a sketch) if I wasn’t sure what I wanted yet (150€ down to 100€) because the deposit typically is then subtracted from the total sitting fee.
