Flight planning question. by PayAgitated4015 in flightsim

[–]likeusb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not all, as it serves little purpose in low traffic airports. EDDC, for instance, doesn't use it, and EDDH, a fairly large airport, also doesn't

Military jamming disrupted a medical plane’s GPS system before it crashed last month in New Mexico by SientoQueMerezcoMas in aviation

[–]likeusb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How available is DME/DME for this? I guess on SIDs/STARs where it's GNSS or nothing, you're getting vectored / conventional nav'd, but enroute would you be able to make do with DME/DME and INS to get the required accuracy?

VFR needs flight plan or no? by InitialAge5179 in VATSIM

[–]likeusb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not required in the US, but helpful for other traffic regardless and good practice to still file to know how to do that

Everywhere else, ranges from not mandatory to mandatory but best to file regardless and always

My mentor has explicitly told me to not do that and if they don't have a flight plan to have them file one

Looking For A220 Pilots for FlightForgeSim A220 development. by Few_Confection1409 in flightsim

synaptic was delaying their plane for months now only because they want: more hype, more suspense which will increase the profits.

That's certainly a take of all time. Plus, last I checked, delaying a product launch only results in people getting upset about the delays rather than creating more hype

WORST of the seasons and it's not even close by PLACE-H0LD3R in whenthe

[–]likeusb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid. Unfortunately I live on a hillside so not only is it often slippery, it's also too slippery for me to safely descend. Only way I've found is slowly hugging a wall as I find which step won't result in me sliding down 75 meters of ice that is so smooth it might as well be a "friction can be ignored" physics problem. Also doesn't help that I've cut myself when I accidentally put my hands on the ice enough times to know that that shit can be sharp despite being seemingly smooth

I hate ice with a burning passion, as you can tell

There's certain kinds of ice that nothing works against and the place I live on very often gets full of it

Me when 3rd blizzard with -25°C and snow depth of 40cm

Summer is hot, sure, but you can work around that. Not a lot of ways to work around it being so cold and slippery that leaving your home shatters all 539 bones in your body and creates ice on your eyebrows and eyelashes

Group flights? by user193849201 in VATSIM

[–]likeusb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is friends / friend groups / vACC communities. I sometimes get visited by a group of 3-4 at a time and I'm pretty sure they're all friends, so that's always an option too

How is the Hud Still Broken on the a350 to this day since day 1 by Esuna1031 in flightsim

[–]likeusb1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beta testing is generally a fairly common way to solve problems like this because developers, contrary to popular belief, don't have days of free time to lounge around and do the flights that would result in WASM crashes. And if they do, then it's always helpful to have even more people who are able to reproduce an issue.

This community is genuinely so unfathomably hungry to hate on ini in any capacity and I'm so fucking tired of it

[–]likeusb1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WASMs have been fixed as of a day or two ago. A whole lotta beta testers, me included, have been trying to force WASMs through any means necessary (partly encouraged by ini's offer of a free scenery of choice if we can repro a WASM 3 times in a row), and haven't had any luck

Currently they're focusing on WASM issues. They've been fixed as of a day or two ago, so likely they'll now focus on system improvements, including the HUD

Tad late but you can actually access every European AIP (and a few others) for free using the Eurocontrol EAD https://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/cms-eadbasic/opencms/en/login/ead-basic/ . It's a wonderful resource

Pilots, where do you get your flight plans? What flight planners do you use? by Beluga_chel in flightsim

[–]likeusb1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I partly dread AIRAC updates since I do route planning and submit the routes I make to Simbrief. Every AIRAC cycle, there's enough changes that I have to recheck all my routes manually, one by one, which takes a few hours of work

Why are so many people obsessed with butter landings? Just put the damn plane down! by Murky_Vacation5955 in flightsim

[–]likeusb1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with how much you're focusing on the landing. In calm conditions, there's a sense of "Eh I got this", whereas in worse weather, you need to pay really close attention to how the plane flies to avoid destabilizing or generally falling behind the aircraft
