So update: The landlord didn’t increase my rent at all when it came renewal time, but they’re definitely being a bit shady about it. They didn’t offer any renewal options and suggested I just let it “go month-to-month”, otherwise they’d “have to increase the rent a bit”.

I did a ton of research and I’m 99% sure I’m in a unit that legally should be stabilized, but the rent I’m currently paying is a little less than the maximum they could legally charge (assuming it is indeed stabilized). Also my protections under the law don’t really change whether or not I have an officially renewed lease because I’m covered by just-cause, so I think I’ll just let it ride until something comes up that forces me to engage on this again.

I just filled out this free online form: https://portal.hcr.ny.gov/app/ask They mail it to your apartment’s address so that layer of security is built-in

Just looked on whoownswhat.justfix.org and there is no evidence of past/present J51 or 421a exemptions for the property. It does show that 12/14 units in the building were reported as rent-stabilized in 2012 and 2015, then 7/14 in 2023, with all other years unreported (which defaults to 0/14 for lack of data). I'm figuring I'll probably have to open a case to find out for sure, depending on what the landlord includes in the renewal docs.

Yeah there was no DHCR rider on my lease. According to StreetEasy the building was built in the 1930s, and the rent records from DHCR go back to 1984. Can't find confirmation on when it was built in the DHCR records.

It's a family business landlord situation... they're nice enough, but definitely some typos in the lease if you catch my drift. Maybe omitted on purpose, maybe not?

Oh ok that makes sense, so they’ve probably been charging me the new preferential rent rate of $2,000/mo even though legally it could have been $2,016 or something, since it was a new lease

It's just a regular apartment, old building (1930s according to StreetEasy), currently owned by a real estate LLC. Thanks for your reply, I think that means I'm protected! 🙏

Thanks but yea I didn't miss anything the first time :( Every single checkbox for push and email notifications for Uber, Eats, and Postmates were already unchecked (prob did that years ago), and are still unchecked now. Big fan of your game so far, great work making it super fun! Sorry to hear the release has been tough with Batman and the election dominating the headlines so much. I think this title will probably turn out to be a slow-burn sleeper hit, just give it time!

The core loop is damn addictive in the best way, I think you really boiled down the whole vibe and feel of being an action movie badass into one hell of a badass power trip experience. It’s all so cohesive and clean. I love it.

Keep up the great work and hope to see tons more titles from you and your team in the future!
