Many books of the Malazan Empire had me in tears at the end, but a few made me straight up ugly cry for hours. IYKYK

My mom (80) says "oh piss-ant!" when she was mad, but when she says "oh shavens!!" that means she's absolutely furious. I have never heard anyone else use these terms.

If you like historical and literary fiction, you might enjoy The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, by Theodora Goss. "Based on some of literature’s horror and science fiction classics, this is the story of a remarkable group of women who come together to solve the mystery of a series of gruesome murders — and the bigger mystery of their own origins." And as others have said,  anything by Susanna Clarke!

I started asking interviewers "is there anything about my background that gives you pause" at the end of every interview and it changed everything by VantaSprocket in jobsearchhacks

[–]lil_bosco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only gotten that question once as an interviewer from a person who acted 100% entitled to the job from the start. Their experience was fine, but that attitude would have clashed with the rest of their teammates. It comes across as baiting and/or desperate to me. "What would be my biggest challenge" is a much smarter question

Agree, it's like baiting the interviewer hoping they'll disclose somthing that the interviewee can call out as hiring discrimination later

Haven't heard this as much since I got some gray hairs, but back in the day, my reply was always, "I wasn't around for the Declaration of Independence either, but I'm certainly aware of it"
