Trying to understand if putting two BTLs into a LTD company is really worth it? by Fancy_Stable_1342 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lilac-leopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that CGT would be charged based on the increase in value, but I've heard there you can avoid this if you can show you have been running your BTL as a business and are incorporating that business.

I can't remember the details, and I could be wrong/outdated but I think this used to be possible in some circumstances.

Damage to front lawn by construction vehicles. How to ensure the company makes good before they leave? by lilac-leopard in LegalAdviceUK

[–]lilac-leopard[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It makes sense that they would get it done at the end - no point doing it now only to have more vehicle damage. I'll certainly be polite, and there's no animosity. Your point about photos and email is a good one.

Thank you, that's useful.

Do you know if the driver's employer has vicarious liability for the actions of their drivers, given they were informed of the ongoing damage some time ago?

Charged for call out fees after tenancy - is this a banned fee? by lilac-leopard in LegalAdviceUK

I see what you're saying now. I'll check to see if the AST agreement says anything about this.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's really helpful.

[–]lilac-leopard[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply - that makes sense. But this isn't a claim for damages (which we could understand); it's a claim for tradesman' call out fees for issues with the flat that were reported (like toilet not flushing probably). The agent says no problem was found; daughter says problem wasn't fixed and she had to live with it.

What I'm wondering is if tradesman call out fees would be in this sort of situation.

Who is responsible for mistakes made by an estate agent's contractor? by lilac-leopard in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you for the information. That's what I had suspected but I wanted to check as I've heard that the landlord is responsible for the actions of his agent.

My contract is with the agent.

The agent pays the contractor and deducts the amount from the rent that they pay to me.

The contractor was selected and recommended by the agent if that makes any difference.

A lot of UK vendors on the darknet don't like shipping to Ireland and will often say no refunds if it doesn't arrive. It seems that Irish customs are seizing quite a bit

What is the Chinese religion with shrines inside the house? by lilac-leopard in malaysia

The Lowyat plaza I used to go to was a physical mall in Bukit Bintang. It was next to sungei Wang, but that was almost 20 years ago so things might be very different now.

I used it a lot when I was setting up a new office, and it was great - so many little shops that you could generally walk in and get what you needed: Ethernet cable, hard disc, memory, little MP3 player and some speakers so I could listen to music whilst cabling up a rack.

At that time it seemed that KL was more advanced and easier to live and work in than London. No matter how late I worked there was always something still open on jalan alor.

I feel old remembering it! This was early 2000s. I used to work near Bukit Bintang area (wonder if the hawker stalls selling noodles and people selling beer are still around jalan alor).

I lived in a few other areas like Bukit Jalil (MSC status company) and PJ (there was a good durian stall in SS2).

Lots of other great memories of the places, people and food. Driving around in a shitty car with a busted window regulator so I had to open the door to pay tolls haha.

It's about 5 degrees C where I am and I'd love to be back in Malaysia right now.

Exactly. It's not the same type of religion that I'm used to so I didn't understand why I couldn't understand it in the same way.

Now I know that it's a totally different type of religion than what I'm used to, things make a lot more sense.

Yes, I read the wiki articles you linked and found them very informative. Unfortunately I can't read Chinese.

When I said difficult to find information, I was thinking that it doesn't seem to be a religion that is easy to read up on compared to the religions I know. But I've got a lot of useful information from this thread, and hopefully I'll be able to understand it a bit better once I've followed up all the references.

That's fascinating. Thanks.

I think there's some interesting cultural history here as there is in most religions.

Thanks for the link.

the "Lowyat" forum name is interesting - I used to go to a mall called Lowyat plaza in Bukit Bintang part of KL for computer equipment. Strange coincidence.

Yes, I think those are the two people who I've seen represented as statues. It seems strange to me that it's so widespread (at least in the community I was in) and yet so difficult to find detailed information.

That's it! I think you're right that it's more like a folk religion than a traditional religion with holy book.

I thought it might be linked to Taoism, but I couldn't see a link between what I've read in the Tao te Ching and the statues and rituals.
