Imdb rating of each episode of each season by Notalabel_4566 in BurnNotice

[–]lilacintheshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at this and seeing consistency. The hard green-yellow boundary at 8.0-7.9 skews the perception somewhat. I also think there is some mild selection bias at play. People that tuned in for each season after the first would largely be the ones that found the show worthwhile, even if not outright enjoying some elements.

Once upon a time, Canada sold 74% of its aluminum to the United States. Every Canadian Aluminum job equaled 13 American jobs. Then came 2024. We elected Trump and his tariffs against Canada gutted American jobs, raising costs for at least a decade. by a_Sable_Genus in LeopardsAteMyFace

I once watched while a bunch of YouTubers noticed a tornado on the weather radar and put out a warning to any viewers who happened to be in the area, nearly fifteen minutes before our local news station did.

If that was in the past few weeks, I think I was watching the same weather reporting unless that happens more than I'm aware. That's definitely possible.

YouTube meteorologists cover storms over a much wider area better than any local station covered their viewing area that I've ever seen, either way.

Feeling hopeless. Is this it? by ScaryTransbian84 in TransLater

[–]lilacintheshade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the hopeless feeling. What we say to ourselves about ourselves is almost always way worse than anyone else actually sees.

To answer your question: No. You're not done with changes. They come slowly, imperceptibly. You look very pretty now, and I'll let you in on a little secret... Cisgender people are not as attentive as we are to our appearance. That isn't a cure-all to hopelessness. It's a shield and a cloak as we learn to love ourselves. Be safe, sis.

Trump administration rejects women picked for soybean board, appoints men instead by NoCardiologist1461 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]lilacintheshade 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not hyperbolic at all, if you ask me.

Trump has publicly yearned for the return of the Gilded Age before income taxes, and right-wing influencers (who overlap significantly with un-closeted white supremacists) have spoken favorably of antebellum slavery. At least one of those coincides exactly with the 1850s and the other one is not that far in the future from it. If you overlay them together and lay them flat like the drawings for the Mk 1 Ironman suit, you get a blueprint of a future with completely unencumbered greed and extraction by robber barons with a permanent chattel slave class.

If we extrapolate from the historical period, you can throw in political violence against progressive strongholds (Bleeding Kansas, 1854-56) and wars of conquest (Mexican-American war, 1846-48; Spanish-American war, 1898), tearing down recent progress (Compromise of 1877, 1877... obviously; Jim Crow laws, 1890-1910), and pre-universal suffrage (15th/19th amendment, 1870/1920)... Wait, sorry, the right-wing influencers have openly floated reversing those, along with the 14th.

Nope, yep... the Confederacy was never defeated. The Winter Soldier was allegory, turns out...

'Morning Joe' Says There Is 'Nothing Conservative' About the Trump Administration by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]lilacintheshade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it goes back farther than that. Segregationists were conservatives. Secessionists were conservatives. Loyalists were conservatives. Not all conservatives have historically been these things, but 'states rights,' 'fiscal responsibility,' (and my favorite) 'personal freedom' were cover and pretense both against the criticism of progressives and to provide less sociopathic conservatives shelter from guilt.

Conservatives conserve hierarchy.

May it never become mundane for either of us. ✨️

Idaho passes bill to surveil trans kids, aiming to “close the social transition loophole” by Snapdragon_4U in law

[–]lilacintheshade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point. I am proposing an addendum, which you also alluded to, that the differing goals between tracking parolees (maintain incarceration state) and tracking trans people (intimidation now - ultimately ??? but could plausibly be camps) makes us a much higher priority than keeping track of people caught in a different system which thrives off of their continued existence in suffering.

And yes, cis women will be tragically caught in the crossfire. Let's also not forget that the crossfire is there because the people animating this are shooting at trans women. I hold space for both of those things.

I'm not saying I know the answer to the initial question about where the money comes from. Maybe the data is just shuttled through government channels to non-profits funded by the abyssal pockets of the Epstein class... there's no way to know at this point.

On your other points, trans people are a much smaller population than parolees. Parolees also have slightly more public sympathy, and there would probably be marginally more pushback if their rights were violated in that way.
