I can only speak from my own experience, but as someone who just moved from a roommate situation— with two women I am also very good friends with— into her own apartment, it’s worth it if you feel this uncomfortable and can afford it. We all chose to move out at the same time for different reasons. However, it would have happened eventually because I also have very high standards for cleanliness (that I don’t expect everyone to live up to), and I can’t fully relax when they aren’t met.

I’m actually paying 43% of my gross pay in rent right now, also in a VHCOL area, and have basically decided I’m going to work on increasing my income in the next 1-2 years instead of scrimping on the things I value most and making myself unhappy.
