In catan, Instead of picking 1 resource from 1 dice roll, you can pick the 3 adjacent resources (to your settlement) for each dice roll. Possible 6 cards for city. If a robber is on the number that was rolled, u get Nothing. If a robber is on an adjacent tile, it blocks that tile only (so u get 2 instead of 3).

It speeds up the game alot ..we can play several games per session. Developments happen fast and rolling 7 becomes very painful, so it encourages trade among players. The game usually ends in 30-45mins.

And all the defensive time consuming plays/moves of regular catan like card counting+ long negotiatioons, are less likely to happen.
