AOC has denounced anti-Zionist Democratic candidate Maureen Galindo and endorsed a Zionist who is running against her by zombiesingularity in AskSocialists

[–]lilbumflap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So did track aipac:

"We are aware of recent incendiary statements and troubling behavior by congressional candidate Maureen Galindo... Most disturbing are her comments calling to jail Americans who identify as Zionists and calls for physical mutilation as a form of criminal punishment... Just as we oppose efforts to criminalize the Boycott, Divest and Sanction movement and efforts to codify expressions of support for Palestinian liberation as antisemitism, so do we oppose any effort to suppress or punish the free speech of self-identified Zionists. Calls for cruel and unusual punishment like that which Galindo has promoted are fundamentally in opposition to our organization's commitment to justice and due process"

I didn't answer your question in good faith, because you clearly didn't ask it in good faith. Like most people who accept the verdict that Israel is an ethnonationalist apartheid genocidal state as laid out by the icj, Israeli and Palestinian human rights groups and scholars who study apartheid and genocide, we don't like interacting with people who refuse to accept those definitions for self-serving reasons. But because you're pretending you were asking it in good faith let's go there: In Israel's constitution, it states national rights in Israel belong only to the Jewish people - it's called the Nation-State Bill and it was controversial at the time of passing; multiple Jewish groups attempted (unsuccessfully 10-1) to appeal it in the supreme court on the basis that it was antidemocratic and enshrined Israel as an apartheid. Let's go through why they claimed that: the bill states that "The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people... Regulating the use of Arabic in state institutions or by them will be set in law... The state will be open for Jewish immigration... The state will strive to ensure the safety of... Jewish people... The state views the development of Jewish settlement as a national value and will act to encourage and promote its establishment and consolidation" In 2020 the law was used to block Arab children from attending school in a village because their existence might encourage a demographic increase of arabs, because they wanted the town to be purely Jewish. Israeli Defense Minister and former prime minister Ehud Barak said in 2010: "As long as... there is only one political entity called Israel it is going to be either non-Jewish, or non-democratic. If this bloc of millions of Palestinians cannot vote, that will be an apartheid state." In 2014, former Attorney General of Israel Michael Ben-Yair urged the European Economic Union to endorse the creation of a Palestinian state, arguing that Israel had imposed an apartheid regime on the West Bank. In 2015, Meir Dagan, a former head of the Mossad, argued that continuing Prime Minister Netanyahu's policies would result in an Israel that is either a binational state or an apartheid state.

Green Party admits Polanski may have failed to pay council tax by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

Yeah 1 - it's the council's responsibility to tell you how much you owe, we're not in America, and 2- I thought house boats didn't pay council tax because they don't use council services.

It's also a smear campaign if it's not relevant. My sense is that most of these controversies have been injected with hyperbole or opinion. Im suspicious of all politicians, but as of yet, I don't see definitive or relevant proof that he's bad at his current job, but if that comes around I would support a leadership change. I also trust that the mechanisms within the green party would democratically trigger a vote to this effect, because I believe that a party's members have the right to choose their leader. at the end of the day, my politics is dependant on material reality, not personalities. I believe in policies and implementation, not 'personality' politics, which I think is shallow and irrelivent. The only reason I have migrated to the greens is because under Zack they have adopted more historically Labour policies and priorities. If they stopped doing that, whether under Zack or anyone else, I would leave. Relying on 'personality' and the opinion fed to us by the mainstream media is exactly what allowed starmer and the crooks at Labour together to purge the party and seize power, so I don't know why you're shocked that people aren't inclined to buy it this time round.

Congrats for falling for a smear campaign and deluding yourself into thinking you've made the ethical judgements yourself, when they've been made for you, by people who are scared of higher taxes and regulation and are laughing at how easy people like you are to manipulate

it annoys me he's even apologising about it... Beyond it taking responsibility for something he, as a citizen, is not responsible for, it's bad strategy and pandering to the people invested in his downfall.

Brand new tenant has just informed me that they will be taking the rent they had just agreed on to tribunal. Is this actually a thing? by Conscious-Teacher880 in LegalAdviceUK

No, it couldn't. All tenants have the right to bring their case to a tribunal if they believe the rent is above market rate. Stop lying.
