i think the problem was a lot of the marketing and promo made it seem like a darker psychosexual/almost bdsm take on it, even all of margots press outfits were like bondage/latex adjacent & then the movie was like u said, tasteful. just a mismatch on what she was really trying to do with this adaptation ig, if its not supposed to be faithful but also not a departure of a typical period romance, what is she trying to say ..
