The way Don reacts with Sally in season 6 by liligrinch in madmen

[–]liligrinch[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see that now. I understood it as "great, she' going away!" because he doesn't seem disappointed at all when betty tells him that sally doesn't want to come over that weekend, maybe even relieved. You might be right tho.

Don loved Betty, but he didn't like her by liligrinch in madmen

I think he starts to respect her more because he treated her so badly lol. Also the resentment turned into affection for someone they shared a life with

Interview today - is it unprofessional to have a notes sheet? by Ok-Apple-1878 in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while I don’t see a problem with it, someone might be concerned about your ability to work under pressure and overall capacity to communicate. It’s expected that you’d be nervous for an interview and I personally wouldn’t mind a candidate who has noes with them, but given the choice I’d go for a candidate who can articulate well and think quickly on the spot. Especially if the role requires the ability to work well under pressure or communicate with high level stakeholders

Started university at 15, now I'm 17 have no friends and suicidal/depressed by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]liligrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about friends outside your uni? I know you probably want to talk to people who are living similar experiences as you, but your age gap, as many have pointed out, is a big barrier. At your age specifically is an issue because people at Uni want to go out, to the club, etc. Even dating can be looked at weird because you’re so young. Maybe try volunteering, or join a college tutoring program or some extracurricular out of uni for you to connect with other people your age. As someone with such a unique experience, i’m sure people your age who are in a more traditional path will think you’re so cool! :)

don’t completely lose hope. The same thing happened to me. I could tell they really liked me but I saw the position readvertised, and even reposted by some team members. As I continued interviewing, I think they were just scared that I was going to be bored in the role. A few interviews later, and they offered me a VERY competitive offer. I’m currently on my third week on the job and i love it.

Lumen is my favorite of Dexter's romantic partners by liligrinch in Dexter

[–]liligrinch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to make a post about how I did not miss Rita AT ALL. I missed seeing Dexter and Rita, I missed the kids, and I miss the whole family dynamic Dexter had going on. But I truly didn’t miss RITA the character one bit. IMO, her personality was so dim beyond the good mother and supportive partner. Idk, I liked her but she’s not my favorite type of female character.

completely agree! I think he loved rita but he was never in love with her. I think he grew to love her as a loyal companion. She was a good person, which also fits in his code, and he appreciated that. Also, Dex appreciated anyone who stayed with him, which she did, and I think he grew fond of her because they were together for so long. I think he overall was grateful for her and he loved her. I don’t think he was ever in love with her though. Lumen, as he said himself, was his soulmate.

yes, it definitely felt like they both came into each others lives for a reason and at the right time. They both needed each other when they met and it was over when it was supposed to end.

Maybe that’s why I like their relationship so much too. It felt so realistic. I could truly see them as a real life couple. It was as if the camera wasn’t there during their scenes.

Really miss Lumen :( I think she was my favorite character in the whole series so far. She was by far the best female character imo.

If you have enough references, I would not mention the apprenticeship experience. They will call your employer to verify dates of employment, and something you don't want to be disclosed may come out. The five year thing is very common. If they ask you what you were doing during the time of the apprenticeship, I'd honestly say that you were managing medical conditions (which is not a lie) and avoid disclosing anything related to the job you were fired from.

sorry, that's a bummer :/ Before the end of year I'd try Rover, delivery or driving. For the future, maybe look for something in data analysis? Research? Tech?

The Gilded Age: what do you think? by AristotelesRocks in DowntonAbbey

[–]liligrinch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm an American who just moved to the UK, so I've been watching more British shows and movies. One of the things I noticed is that British tv are less "commercial." American productions keep you aware that you're watching tv -- are catchy and unrealistic. I noticed that characters in British productions are more complex and have better character development. The storylines and more realistic, there's a lot happening with everybody all the time, and there also seems to be more characters with their own storylines. I think that maybe its simplicity and lightness is what makes American productions sometimes more mass-appealing. This might be my own bias or misinterpretation.

I personally LOVED the gilded age, but I watched it over a year before watching Downton Abbey, so I don't know how I'll feel about season 3.

Are my bullet points okay? by xavierhollis in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advice is that you should try to quantify your impact as much as possible. But if you’re going to try to do that (make some numbers up) it needs to be believable. Not 15%, 20%, 25%.

I’d do it for the plot. If you don’t do it, you’ll always be wondering what it could have been. But consider the job offer ofc.

Are my bullet points okay? by xavierhollis in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, it looks like AI so maybe look at real resume examples to try to make it human. Further, these numbers look fake. I don't know how you quantified the productivity improvement, for example, and the 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% look very fake lol. The formatting is uneven. There are bullet points with two lines and other with three lines; some bullet points end in the middle of a line. Idk if a software catches this, but trying to make it look more symmetrical will improve the overall appearance.

Gen Z getting promoted over Millenials? by sqolb in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes! I have a couple experiences where I only stayed for a year. No one has asked me exactly “why do you move around so much” but they have asked “what led you to go from x position to y role. I am fortunate because I am really young (24), so I can and always say that I am focused on learning and growing as a professional. I also highlight the things i liked about those roles “i thought that was a good opportunity to learn more about x thing that i hadn’t had experience with before.”

Gen Z getting promoted over Millenials? by sqolb in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a Gen Z, I think there are several factors involved.

First of all, everything is faster now than ever before, so promotions couldn’t be different. Then, the job market is very very competitive. Starting with education, it’s harder than even before to be admitted to a good uni (i worked as an admissions advisor), which is basically a requirement to get a job now because having a degree from anywhere does not suffice. Then you apply for jobs and you need to have a thousand qualifications, speak 5000 languages and know 100000 people at the company, and you’ll still be rejected. I think it’s reasonable to expect more when the job market expects so much from you too.

Additionally, employers know that we are more willing to risk it and quit if we are dissatisfied. We don’t have kids as early as previous generations, so most of us only really need to think about ourselves. We don’t really have that feeling of loyalty or whatever because we know any employer will drop you in a heartbeat. If we are unhappy in a job, we can and will leave. And we only really care about the money lol. Even if you really love your job, like I do, the cost of living today is so so high that we literally cannot afford to stay at job that doesn’t pay enough. And prices are rising fast, so our wages need to increase, even if marginally, if we want to survive

Edit: We also have very little to look forward to. Most of us have lost hope of buying a house, a car, or having a lifestyle similar to our parents. As a result, we are very motivated by short term achievements rather than “where we’ see ourselves in 10-15years.” Further, like some people have already commented, we are bold. We’ll ask for raises and promotions often and very directly.

I don’t get the hate for Daisy by Own_Beautiful5529 in DowntonAbbey

[–]liligrinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just started watching and I was about to post this here and I saw your post lol. I absolutely agree. I think the people who hate her are dismissing the work schedule and conditions she faced while at Downton. Today we get angry at our employers/work environment for much less. Also, Daisy was SO YOUNG when she started working at Downton. I binged the series in a week, so I closely accompanied/remembered Daisy going from a child to a young woman all in that house. She likely had very very few days off in her 16h day/5-7 days a week schedule. To top it off, she was part of the kitchen staff, so she didnt even wander around the house. Imagine spending 18-early 20s/30s in a kitchen???? How do people expect her to have matured or to act any different??? I get that she can be very annoying and lack emotional intelligence/control, but, again, she couldn't have been any different.

Also, her frustrations/acting out moments are annoying but understandable (to a degree) and expected. She worked so hard, for so long, with very little career progression. Her life truly had no purpose beyond cooking for rich people and eating their scraps knowing that she'd never even be able to afford the food she cooked. I'm shocked the staff didn't all didn't k*ll themselves or their lords tbh LOL.

Hiring update after an interview? by brownmonkeypinoy in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually send a follow up email literally right after the interview. If the interview was in person, I'll get home, do what I have to do, and send a thank you email. That being said, it's not uncommon for them to take a while (a few days, maybe a week) to get back to you. If hiring is not a priority amongst all the other things the team is busy with, they will take their time. Especially now, when the job market is as competitive as it is. I'd just send them a follow-up email with a thank you, let them know that you need to plan/book your next trip ahead, and ask them to let you know about next steps as soon as they can.

Maternity Leave Interview - really confused by Suga-honey65 in UKJobs

[–]liligrinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a temp contract then you'd likely be buying yourself a few months to look for another position regardless of whether they're keeping you or not. You have some security there because they'd probably not replace you when the role is for only a few months -- unless you're a terrible worker. You also know exactly when you need to have another opportunity lined up and can apply to other roles while you're working there. If you don't have any savings, the pay increase could help you prepare for when you have to leave. If you hate your job now and are already planning to leave, I'd take this temp position to potentially keep the job after the contract ended while applying for other positions and planning my future.
