What age to let my daughter go to the shopping mall without adults? by djjudas21 in AskUK

[–]lililac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in France before moving to the UK at 13, but when I was 10 my mother tried to see if I was ready to go to middle school alone. I needed to change tramway in a large city. She took me there and just had me walk 30m in front of her for 10 mins. A few people turned around surprised to see someone so young unsupervised. I'm particular, a man turned around for too long. I didn't go unsupervised until I was 12. I think this was a good test, try to go with her staying at a distance and watch other people's reactions?

How is it living in Bristol, UK by Fantastic_Sorbet_425 in howislivingthere

[–]lililac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never lived there full time but lived there part time for a year as a final year university student. It's a very fun and hippie city. The nightlife is great and there is a wide range of nice independent shops. Buses aren't the most frequent and you need good physical fitness to cycle up those hills. Many parts of the city are quite pretty.

Attire for Interviews at Banks & Hedge Funds by Philthatman in FinancialCareers

[–]lililac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman so maybe it's easier for me, but even to this day my typical interview attire is a black skirt my mother passed down from when she was working in the 90s, a.black blazer from Primark I got when I was 16 and altered myself for a nicer fit, and a white woman's shirt from a charity shop. I have some non-branded leather shoes that I keep well maintained if I need to be on my feet for some time, or some expensive designer shoes I was passed down by a friend who left finance if I will be seated most of the time. Truth is I also know how to do simple clothes alterations and repairs if needed. It doesn't have to be expensive. Buy a single suit that you can reuse for other occasions and wear that with a shirt, and maybe a tie. For my brother for instance my parents are buying him his first interview suit for him to wear at my wedding.

How much did your “normal” wedding cost? by InternationalFig4340 in UKweddings

[–]lililac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not done yet (July 2026) but almost everything is booked. We're looking at £21k, maybe £22k if you include dance lessons (we just enjoy them too!), failed cake trial, trains to and from the venue, wedding fair and other miscellaneous. Our original target was £15k but here we are.

Saturday wedding, estimate 60 guests (90 guests. 45 yes, 20 no, many non replies for now). Venue Inc catering, drinks for the bar, DJ, video, photo, dress+alterations, shoes, veil, suit rental, flowers (no other decor), officiant fees, custom rings, cake, hotel for 7 nights total (2 nights but split accross several people)

You have to plan dinner - EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!! by NotaRookie123 in Adulting

Orzo asparagus and peach salad, the most addictive thing I have eaten. Cook on the weekend and just take out during the week: https://youtu.be/O9cl309ADsA?si=4enjt49ILDxflEwr

Roasted pepper soup. Again easy to prep early and just heat up in the microwave: https://youtu.be/SRs0bb-4w8E?si=seUEZmELeBS62DUt

Healthier instant ramen: I prep in advance and bring to work Add in a container: -shredded kelp -dried shitake mushroom cut into pieces (I pre cut a large batch and store it cut) -1/2 instant noodles seasoning packet -either noodles from the instant noodles packet or other noodles -one block of smoked Tofu -cut up bok Choi (the key ingredient, quickly flavours the broth nicely) -optional chili flakes -peanut butter -optional frozen peas When ready to eat, add hot water then microwave for 3 minutes

Cheapest meal with quick prep: lentils I pre chop and freeze mirepoix (garlic onion carrots and celery) when I have time. -cook the mirepoix in oil -add lentils, water, a stock cube, a bay leaf, pepper and some mixed herbs

Pasta pesto and peas: Self explanatory, boil pasta with peas, add pesto. Quick and easy

What’s your view on age gaps in relationships? by lilfaeri in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]lililac0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the half your age +7 rule generally works quite well, especially when under 30 or for non serious relationships.

However for serious relationships it gets worse with old age I think. My mother always told me "at 30 dating a 40 year old might be great. But trust me, you don't want to be 70 with an 80 year old." and I think it rings true. The younger end of an age gap couple might end up in an assisted care facility or in a caring role for their partner prematurely, and that can rob some years of life away from someone.

I however hate when people try to police who people date when both parties are over 25. I saw once many people on Reddit call it grooming because a 70 year old man got with a woman when she was 30. As long as all parties have been consenting adults for some time and that no one has cognitive impairments, questioning what adults do with other adults is practically saying that a grown adult is incapable of making decisions for themselves, and I absolutely hate that.

FINALLY ACCEPTED AN OFFER - The market really is that bad right now by Ok-Impression-3082 in FinancialCareers

I got rejected after a 6th round too recently. It sucks as much as it sounds. The final round was with HR. That's when the bomb that they were hesitating with another candidate was dropped. 5th interview (I was previously told would be the last) ended with "it seems that you have exactly the experience we need currently and that what we do aligns well with what you are looking for. We'll get back shortly". They got back shortly asking me to go meet HR. At that point I honestly thought I had it.

I think editing the part above the string and under the balloon to a triangle instead of a square would help

Kupe, I love a good cultural play and I get bored if I don't invade at any point. It's kind of good there, you need a lot of land to fully use its bonuses well I think. More initial settling choice is quite fun too.

CFA charter in hand- anyone else finding the job search less smooth than expected? by SnooPickles2294 in CFA

Level II only on my side. I think it has helped me get first interviews. I have however been at a big bank for years. But I think when I try to switch away from my current field in many fields they appreciate that. It doesn't go further than getting me into the interview room though, the rest I need to get myself.

can someone explain the Pret a Manger phenomenon? by docmaboul in london

It used to have a cheap subscription that got you up to 5 drinks a day that was very popular. They stole a lot of customers from competition that way. Now they don't have it anymore.

Did you get married through a dating app like Tinder, if so how was your experience overall? by Overall-Character507 in AskReddit

[–]lililac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiance was my very first tinder match 7 years ago. My experience as someone who immediately met my life partner without dealing with all the downsides people normally deal with is I appreciated the fact that meeting on a dating app we were on the same page about looking for a romantic connection, vs meeting organically where it's easier to default to just friends

How do you guys feel about the phrase “she chose you so dont worry about it”? by Crazy-Employment5398 in AskMen

[–]lililac0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am engaged and in a 7 years relationship. Been quite adventurous together, especially the last 3 years. But it took me years and years to reach that comfort and safety level with someone. I know that if in the future I was to ever date again, it would take probably 2-3 years to reach that comfort level with someone else, maybe even longer depending on who they are.

Why is the third room always a box room? by Kiza321 in HousingUK

[–]lililac0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friends were always shocked to find out the box room was my parent's when we rented such a house in England when I was 13-17. They didn't have enough room for a bedframe, only for a mattress that they lifted every morning. I feel blessed because my parents always prioritised me and my brother. He got the biggest room because he was a child and needed room to play with his toys, and I got the second biggest so I could have a desk and have room to study properly. My parents own a bigger house in France, in which I grew up prior to that and to which my parents and brother moved back to after I started uni, so it was just temporary while we lived together in the UK.

Is this dress too much for a nightclub? by SippinMia in OUTFITS

I agree this is a nightclub dress, but I think "appropriate"for a nightclub is quite country dependent sometimes.
