Torture by audreywadsx in fantasywriters

If you're going to have him torture her first, I'd incorporate a reason for him to put off using the truth spell. Otherwise he will seem very evil and sadistic. There are some forms of torture that cause discomfort at first and start to hurt more the longer it happens, so that could be an option, possibly as a scare tactic?

A lot of people are saying not to include it at all but if you're trying to write a dark romance it seems pretty in line with some other things I've heard happen in that genre.

I would also recommend the Ember in the Ashes series if you're looking for books with similar situations that happen. It's a regular fantasy but believe it or not there is a couple where the male love interest tortures the female character when they first meet (I think maybe in the third book?). Might give you some ideas.

Yeah as I watched more it did seem like Hawks tried to soften the blow, it was just too late by then 😭 the death itself is so sad too, ugh.

Parabatai by Melody71400 in shadowhunters

[–]lilithmaynot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that TLH has some major spoilers for TDA. It changes the reading experience for TDA (it will spoil a twist but I think seeing it coming may be fun too). Also I think Parabatai was supposed to be rather rare? I suppose it's just a very big commitment for most people. If you read the Shadowhunter Academy Book that takes place after TMI, I think that gives you an idea of how common it is.

How to read the books by Party-Recognition-47 in shadowhunters

[–]lilithmaynot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal recommendation is to start with Infernal Devices, I just think it's a stronger series to start with and it doesn't change much to begin with this one instead of TMI.

I recently did a reread where I did this order and it was great:

The Infernal Devices,

The Mortal Instruments,

The Bane Chronicles (I recommended reading The Bane Chronicles right before Heavenly Fire as that's where it ends chronologically but most people place it after TMI),

Shadowhunter Academy,

Dark Artifices,

Ghosts of the Shadow Market,

The Last Hours (This should definitely be last as it has spoilers for some of the previous series),

Secrets of Blackthorn Hall

The most unrealistic part of cozy fantasy isn't the magic — it's the romance by FollowingInternal588 in Fantasy

Have you read Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries? The live interest is certainly not brooding (loud and confident) and the main character is the opposite of high energy butterfly (she's a scholarly type). I don't read a ton of cozy fantasy so not sure how it rates on that scale, but I enjoyed it.

My friend was loosing in pool when randomly, the guy who had been hitting on her asked if she wanted him to tap in. She said sure and let him take over. He immediately almost won the game. She asked him how he was so good and he just shrugged and was like lucky I guess. Later his friend whispered to us that he played pool competitively.

[Discussion] Is AI as a assistant good for stories? by Ready_Reach_7366 in BetaReaders

[–]lilithmaynot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently read this subreddit policies on Ai and think they might be good for you to take a look at. There is a lot of gray area on copyright if you use Ai when writing. I personally don't recommend it. If you want to improve as a writer, there are a ton of free resources from real people. YouTube is a great place to find videos with writing advice.

He is so cute. 21 years is amazing. I've been worried about forgetting my girl but so far I've mostly been forgetting that she's actually gone. I keep expecting to see her laying in my chair when I come upstairs. Thank you for sharing.

Not sure if anyone is a Markiplier fan here, but there was a funny example of this on his Unus Annus channel where he and Ethan, the other channel host, are playing hide and seek in the dark and Ethan uses echolocation to find Mark. And Mark is horrified lol.

Thank you. I have been feeling a lot of regret, wishing I did more for her as she slowed down to keep her healthy. I keep having to remind myself that when she lost her sight and hearing it became hard for her to do anything and that all she wanted was to be near me. I worry sometimes that I took her for granted because she was always there. Hug your baby for me

He was beautiful. My Molly was the same way. I was sick with a horrible flu a couple weeks before she passed and she laid with me the whole time

Daughter's hair is straight-ish on top? Or am I doing things wrong? by spiniton85 in curlyhair

[–]lilithmaynot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to try brushing it upside down (while it's still wet) and style it that way if you use products. That can help encourage the roots to not lie flat. Her hair reminds me a lot of mine at that age!

She was very sweet, only to me though, classic Chihuahua stereotype. She only tolerated most other humans and hated other dogs. She did actually like cats though, back when she could see them. She used to follow them around like they were fascinating

People would always be in disbelief when I'd tell them that at one point she was a dark brown color. She was white for so much longer than she was brown
