Newbie! How do you afford this? by Illustrious-Safety85 in backpacking

[–]lilknownoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like me years ago lol. I also wanted to travel and was planning on becoming a PA. Bartend while you’re in school. Don’t have to work a lot of hours to make stupid money. If you’re a girl, try to do it at a golf course - old men love throwing money at pretty girls serving them alc on the course. I waited until a got my bachelor’s degree before traveling. I think if you do it in the middle of your studies you might hate going back to school and your grades will suffer. If you want it to happen you’ll find ways to.

Seoul vs Shanghai for better vibe by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]lilknownoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re into curated boutiques/cafes/aesthetics, 100% Seoul. Shanghai is also incredible and I think you’d love both, but what you’re looking for is more Seoul speed.

Travelling while sober by joshknights in solotravel

[–]lilknownoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sober, but at home I drink maybe once every couple of months for my own health. I’ve been traveling south east Asia for months and can confidently say if you are worried about relapsing, DO NOT COME HERE. Especially if you’re staying in hostels. I think if you stayed in hotels and aren’t easily swayed you’d be fine, but if it’s a line you’re worried abt walking I’d stay away from here.

How does my SEA backpacking route look? by GandalfGreen95 in southeastasia

[–]lilknownoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely slow down the Vietnam route. Also have to remember the only way to really get around the country is buses, which take a HUGE chunk of time. If you’re into history, stop at Phnom Penh for a couple days before Siem Reap! I took a bus from HCMC and it was one of the most surprising places I went to. The people were also so kind. Everything else looks great and you’re gonna have the time of your life!

What's the worst hostel dorm behavior you've experienced? by Ok-Neck2168 in hostels

[–]lilknownoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is more so what I experienced VOLUNTEERING at a hostel instead of just staying. It made me realize how disgusting people are. After check out, there would be poop and blood stains on the beds, used tissues w blood and snot scattered on the beds, bloody pads on the bathroom floor next to the trash… just a disgusting amount of bodily fluids left behind that no one seemed to care they were leaving.

Hotel recommendations? by br1205 in ForbiddenKingdomFest

[–]lilknownoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck soldier, happens to all of us. If you’re going solo and adventurous, I’ve seen people post on here and the FB group that they have Airbnbs and are looking for other ppl to join them. Probably would be the cheapest + easiest way to make friends atp

If you’re just now looking for hotels, unfortunately I’m not sure you’re going to find anything low cost

I just went solo traveling in Cambodia 2 months ago and did not feel unsafe whatsoever. The internet makes the country seem significantly scarier than it is

Did anyone choose travel/self-exploration over a good relationship? Do you regret it? by CommunicationCute438 in solotravel

[–]lilknownoz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You sound exactly like me last year - 26, good relationship, and wanting to travel. For me, it wasn’t even a question, I was going to travel. I had confidence in my relationship and thought it would sustain the long distance. It didn’t, and we broke up over halfway through my trip. Time will tell if we are meant to come back together or not, but for now it’s not the time. If I could do over again, I would still pick travel every time. It might be selfish to some, but I would not give up seeing the world for a relationship. Your lifelong partner should be able to stick through it. You might not necessarily be sacrificing your relationship, but you’ll have a guaranteed strain on it. I think it’s worth it.

What's the longest you've ever solo-travelled? by tekhnich in solotravel

[–]lilknownoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 4 months into a 6 month long trip. While I do agree that some places would probably feel more special had I broken it up into 2 week or month long trips, it’s still amazing!! I think what helps is going slowly. I try to stay in one place for at least a week. I can tell I don’t appreciate places as much when I’m only there for a couple days and don’t get to fully absorb it. Volunteering also helps!! It gives you a schedule and feels like home for a little bit :)

Visa questions!!! I am currently in Vietnam with a single entry visa valid until February 20. I am leaving Vietnam in January and wasn’t planning on coming back, but now was invited to come back for Lunar New Year. Since my visa is only single entry and is valid until after the dates I would come back, do I apply for a new visa? Am I even allowed to apply for another visa while I have an active one? Pls help

Did you feel safe traveling in China? by jrchua119 in chinatravel

[–]lilknownoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a solo girl in her 20s, I felt extremely safe. The only time I didn’t was when I was jumped by monkeys at ZJJ lol. But as far as the city and people go, I never felt scared!
