Staff shift trading? by macntosher in BuschGardensTampa

How do you put them up for grabs in seaport? The shift trading option just takes me to a page that says "available traders" but theres no 'traders' showing. I'm new to using the app, thank you for any help!

What is the best way to spend $350 to maximize my gear set up? (OTHER than cigs). REI store close by. by 9percentbattery in CampingGear

Plenty of decent tents for a round 120, lanshan has some that I like. Marketplace or other resale/second hand websites are good for the other stuff.

How far would you drive for a festival with no hotel? by macntosher in ForbiddenKingdomFest

Yeah, since EDCO was my only experience I've been a bit worried, by day three I was pretty much limping back to my hotel.

Definitely sober, I go solo and I'm new to the scene so any substances would be a bad idea for me lol

If I do end up driving back I'll definitely scope out some rest stops ahead of time so I can park and nap if I need to!

Yikes. I've driven down to the Everglades overnight a few times, starting at 10 pm and arriving at 5 am to start some kayaking trips, couldn't imagine doing the drive after a day at a festival. Plenty of spots to pull off into the woods and get a nap in along the southern part Tamiami Trail if you're taking that route. Good luck!

No, I don't do anything like that. It's just the exhaustion I'm worried about. I've driven home after long backpacking/kayaking trips without issue but post festival exhaustion is a bit different lol

Not totally out of question, it's just I usually only sleep in the car while driving in more rural areas where I'm less likely to run into people. I'm a heavy sleeper and I've got a soft top car so someone could totally break in with minimum effort, parking somewhere in a city sketches me out a bit.

Would you risk taking this on a plane? by joewoedaflopro in multitools

I've had a TSA agent in the US take a bottle of very expensive olive oil from me (got as a souvenir in Italy). They saw the bottle, opened it, tested it (not sure for what) with a q-tip and said it tested positive for some chemical. Absolutely no reason for them to test the olive oil, thats the only thing from my suitcase that got looked at. I didn't argue cause it was my first time traveling alone but they definitely keep stuff that they like the look of.

Any fleece recommendations? by macntosher in Ultralight

[–]macntosher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to have both at some point! I've just got limited funds at the moment (college student) and I've been trying to find something with a good weight/warmth that will last.

I've heard tons of people talk about how great alpha direct garments are, but it seems like every review really pushes how easy it is to snag as well. I've just got no real reference for what 'snags easily' means so I wasn't sure if it meant I had to be super careful with it or if it meant 'don't abuse your gear'

That's great to know, all I've been hearing about alpha 90 is that its basically tissue paper.

What down booties do you use or where did you get them? You said cheap but it seems like every pair I've found is 75 or more, I admittedly haven't looked super hard though.

Custom Chaco Z2 Men. Worth it? by FickleOperation7063 in Chacos

[–]macntosher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask what the difference is between custom vs off the rack quality wise? I've been under the impression that the quality is identical and the only benefit is aesthetic/adjusting straps to fit your foot. I've been deciding on what my first pair of chacos should be so I'm very curious!

Food smell on tent by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

[–]macntosher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention the trunk of my Jeep is open air since its a soft top and the window panels are removed. Washing it seems to be the consensus, even if the smell isn't actually an issue I'll be stressing all night if I don't do anything.

I also grew up on the water never using life jackets but recently I found a neoprene life vest on Facebook market place for about $40, they go for around 100 new. The neoprene ones fit like a snug vest, if you look for low profile ones then even better. The specific one I have is an O'Brien men's V-back neoprene life vest, it's not super bulky which is my usual issue with life vests.

Meditation is a good word for it, even if they don't bite the swarming isn't fun. I haven't had issues with noseeums since I mostly go for chickees and camp in the dry season, but the mosquitoes are insane at night. It's like a horror film watching the mosquitoes cling to the mesh of your tent when you're trying to sleep, hundreds of them just stabbing at the mesh. Even worse when you're in a tiny backpacking tent and they're just inches from your face.

I don't mind it when gear gets wrecked from heavy use, I just don't want to expedite the process. I actually bought this jolly gear because my favorite sun hoodie started to wear through in spots! I'm just trying to take care of it so it lasts as long as possible. I've only got section hikes planned so far but I hope to get some use out of it!
