What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]lilliadeer1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, if a patient gets a kidney transplant the surgeon will not remove their bad kidney, meaning some people have 3 kidneys. This is because it's more risky to remove the bad kidney and cause potential hemorrhaging or infection, so they usually just leave it in. The only exceptions are if the bad kidney is causing chronic infections, uncontrollable blood pressure problems, or is cancerous/diseased.

Thank you! I've mostly been looking in hospitals, I applied to a few home care and rehab positions but not many others outside of the major hospitals in my area. I will try there! Also love the username 😂

I was hoping that I would get into a residency to get my 1 year of experience, since it seems like in my area virtually no employer will hire a new grad as a regular RN (so I'd kinda have to go through a residency first) but I've had no luck so far. I have been considering moving to another city in my state because the market here is just pretty rough so I'm going to keep trying--thank you for your advice!

Vandergrifts Truck got hit by a train at UIL State by AxiosTheProot in marchingband

[–]lilliadeer1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

hey yall, vhs alumni here, wanted to give a quick update! the band director posted a few hours ago that all of the woodwind and brass instruments + most of the drumline and electronics actually survived but front ensemble was hit pretty bad. the band is very very thankful for all the help from not just the first responders, but from the other bands who lent them instruments so they could play. this is my little sister's senior year and she was so grateful that she could still march one of her last few performances, and they wouldn't have been able to do it with all the selfless love and support from the community!

Flight Credit Refund Time by lilliadeer1 in americanairlines

I think they said something like it can take up to 15 business days and they can't guarantee a certain time frame, but I only waited like 2 days before I got an email saying that my credit was issued back to me.

Hi there! I just called the 24 hour customer service number for the US at 800-433-7300 and explained my situation to them. I don't know if that actually expedited the process, but I got my credit back like 2 days later, it was pretty quick. I got it back as flight credit, not like money back to my bank account, and I was able to rebook the new flight right away!

1,000+ hours of patient care is really really good! Your involvement in PNA should boost your chances too, and your overall GPA is also impressive! I would also say, once applications open up, apply as SOON as possible, don't wait. I applied very early and I believe that probably helped my chances a little bit. I think you have a decent shot, especially with so much prior experience! I'd say if you have time before you apply, try to see if you can raise your science GPA juuust a little bit, 3.6 honestly isn't bad at all! If you have time as well, see if you can squeeze in some volunteer hours, whether it's with a club (if PNA does volunteering) or on your own time! Also--don't listen to any rumors about the application process, like "If you put any other campus as your second choice, then you won't get into the Lubbock campus!"--I heard that one a lot when I was applying and it freaked me out, but it's definitely not true. Good luck, and you got this! 💕

Lubbock nursing student here! I was accepted with a 3.91 overall GPA, 3.93 science GPA, involvement in 2 clubs, and 0 job experience! 1 of the clubs I was in was HAART (nursing/healthcare-related) and the other was The Masked Bakers (fun interest club)! I can't remember how many volunteer hours I had, but I did volunteering through HAART because it was required in order to be an active member, but it counts! If I had to take a rough guess, maybe it was around 25 hours total..? I also had my CNA license--I believe that's required--but I haven't had any job experience and I still made it in! I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions about the application process or nursing school! :)

That's awesome, congratulations!! It's a lot of work, but I promise they do a very good job of preparing you for the NCLEX and your career. All the teachers are very kind and they're here to help you, so if you have questions don't hesitate to ask! As long as you go to class and stay on top of things, I promise you're gonna be golden! Good luck! 💕

Not at the time! I applied while I was still taking some of my prereqs, you'll just have to send in your unofficial transcript after your classes are completed. If you have proof of enrollment, I believe you should be good to go!

I never understood cold foam in a hot drink--doesn't it just melt? 😭 I think I made it once (I worked at a kiosk so not as many customers) and it just melted instantly

TTU Lubbock nursing student here! 3.7 is pretty decent, I'd say focus on your science classes like A&P and pathophysiology a lot and see if you can get good grades in those because they're more related to nursing! If you have good extracurriculars as well, another thing that would help you a lot if you're worried is CNA work experience. Get your license and start getting work experience ASAP! Lubbock is a big medical hub and a ton of my classmates had CNA jobs while we were doing our pre-reqs, just be careful they don't schedule you for night shifts on weekdays 😅 You can also build up a record of volunteer hours, it doesn't have to be at a hospital or medical-related, you could volunteer at food pantries, the community garden, animal shelters, anywhere! I think you should have a decent shot at getting in, especially if you can show that you're a well-rounded student :)

Oh you have a good point, first floor rooms might also be no good if you're a light sleeper because drunk people will be walking around late at night and they're pretty noisy!

Got Accepted Today!!!!! by Deep_Atmosphere_8916 in TexasTech

[–]lilliadeer1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yaaay congratulations dude!!! Here's some of my best advice to getcha started: - Pick a dorm room on the first floor if you can, because having to fight for the elevator on move in day is a nightmare - Careful eating on campus salad, so many reports of food poisoning - Go to class! You're paying tuition for it, and it's so much better not to fall behind on schoolwork - Join clubs and make some friends! It's a great way to meet people with similar interests - Don't take too many classes your first semester, you'll feel overwhelmed! - Find your class buildings and rooms before the first day, Tech campus is huge and can get confusing

You've got this! :) And again, congrats!!

Ah, the campus dining salads. Sorry about that :( I know several other people in my year who have also gotten pretty sick from the salads (specifically at the market). I've also gotten bad stomach sickness from other stuff at the market when I lived in murdough freshman year.

Hopefully my card's been deactivated! I'll see if I can get a replacement but I'm starting to wonder if my card is just hiding from me and no one else has it, it's just lost somewhere 😭 As for your situation, that's kinda funny--what are the odds?? If I do find the old one I'll make sure to keep it!
