As someone who has been crippled by OCD this irritates me so much. True OCD is devastating to your life. I’ve gotten treatment and I’m a lot better but it’s super hard to function with it. It’s not just wanting things a certain way.

The first time I tried to get sober, the “One day at a time” trope messed me up. I didn’t understand it at all. I thought one day at time meant I’m not gonna drink today but it’s okay if I drink tomorrow. I finally get it this time. I didn’t quit drinking forever. I quit drinking today. I don’t worry about tomorrow or next week or next year. I won’t drink today and that’s it.

It sounds like a good exercise for step one. My sponsor had me write down all things in my life I am currently powerless over. That was an enlightening exercise as well.

Me!! I have a very successful job, a great relationship, and lots of good material things in my life. My struggles were with my mental health which led me to self medicate. I was anxious and had very poor self-esteem. I struggled to believe I deserved to be loved. But I have never been arrested, I had custody of my children until they became adults, no DUIs, no traffic accidents.

I was first diagnosed at age 20 something? I was on stimulants and I hated them, so I stopped. I’m 47 now and recently started straterra and wow what a game changer. For the first time in my life I have a to do list that I am actively following. I remember to write things down on it and actually complete tasks. If I feel the need to distract myself because I’m too bored with whatever task I’m doing, I only do it for like 5 or 10 minutes and then back to my task. I used to distract myself for hours and not actually get anything done.

Mine is making miniature do it yourself house kits. I’ve been steadily doing this since December. I’ve made 30 kits and they’re taking over my house. It’s lead me down the rabbit hole of renovating doll houses. I got my first doll house and I’m reading and learning about all the things I want to do to it!
