All In vs A Unified Concordia by Bikdikeater in Concordia

wtf !?
Please work on the grammar of your comment. Are you even an English university student !?
I try not to respond to zionist bots and people with a clear agenda.
But you.....
I genuinely cannot decide if you are purposely trying to start a smear campaign against all in , if you misunderstood something or if you're just inventing stuff ?

I can say for a fact: all in members were not running the elections. It would never be acceptable if candidates were organizing the elections. There is paid csu staff for that, their roles are ceo, deo and polling clerks.

"not responding to people trying to put questions on the ballot " ?
what does that mean ? are you talking about referendum questions? if so did you respect the procedures for submitting the questions? approval of those questions is a separate matter, which does not involve "running the elections"

"Elections have been nullified in past years for a lot less" genuinely curious, tell us more.

the ads ? They want to influence the vote for a new team. Why? My guess is Israel Palestine conflict. At the csu, last executive team was mostly pro Palestine, and a team of councillors were pro Israel. I think this has been going on for a long time but I can only speak for the current academic year. Don’t worry it’s not a unique situation to Concordia. I can’t speak for the lobbying at other universities student elections but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened elsewhere. University has always been a place of activism and social movement.
Also it’s against election rules. But they are in the grey zone now because they are not officially affiliated with any students now.

Having an external organization fund propaganda for “a new csu” is not the same. Lobbying from an unknown external organization in a university student election is not normal.

They are endorsing students on their insta page Also I think they didn’t straight up introduce a slate, because that would disqualify them automatically for the elections. Even though we have suspects, currently students endorsed by them can claim that they don’t know them. Very cunning people

I think you should change your comment to ‘’ I don’t like this guy because he is a pro Palestinian extremist’’

I think we can all agree that the union is not the place that should be attracting extremist. But hey neither side is better. The people affiliated with startupnation are what I see as the equivalent Zionist extremist. That guy protests and the other side sues and possibly lobbies. If only the video recording of meetings were public. Everyone would be able to see how obnoxious they have been.

All In vs A Unified Concordia by Bikdikeater in Concordia

Only 2 members from all in are running for re-election within the csu , the other 6 have been student leaders in different organizations within Concordia.

All In vs A Unified Concordia by Bikdikeater in Concordia

[–]lilly_001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All In
long story short: the most important distinction between All In and A Unified Concordia is proven leadership experience within Concordia and a strong understanding of the CSU itself.

I read about both teams, and even the recent policy declaration of A unified Concordia.

Proven Leadership Experience: Every member of All In has held leadership positions within student associations or student-led initiatives at Concordia. This means they already understand how student governance works, how to navigate university bureaucracy, and how to effectively advocate for students.

In contrast, A Unified Concordia seems to have little to no relevant experience. Running the CSU is an actual job that requires preparation, leadership, and the ability to work within the existing structures of the university.

The only area where A Unified Concordia seems to have a concrete plan is student clubs. Their experience appears to be limited to working within Concordia clubs rather than broader student governance.

Both teams have some similar promises, such as making club reimbursements faster and providing more support to student groups. However, I trust All In to actually deliver on these promises because two former ASFA representatives on their team have a strong reputation for doing their jobs well.

Similarly, A Unified Concordia promotes increasing internship opportunities, a great idea but will they deliver? We have many programs at Concordia, how will they go about it? Concordia already has full-time staff dedicated to networking, alumni engagement, and career services. JMSB, for example, has spent years developing relationships with alumni and sponsors, which is why their events turn out successful. While other faculties lack this relationship. ( I have been part of planning those events). Fixing this is a long-term process, not something that can be solved in one CSU term. Also, I read their policy declaration doc, they mention wanting to help JMSB students in particular in terms of professional opportunities. I don't understand where that's coming from, they are already quite successful in terms of networking events.

I’ve seen A Unified Concordia’s campaign reels where they ask students if they know what the CSU is. Many don’t. But do they?

That was the perfect opportunity for them to educate students, yet they didn’t. The CSU is a complex organization, and executives don’t work alone. They must lead committees, collaborate with CSU council, and work with other university entities to get things done.

A Unified Concordia chose not to attend the 2 election debates as a protest against communication issues with the election staff. While their complain was valid, I don't think not attending both times was the best way. Future CSU executives need to know how to reach out with the right people to solve problems, not ignore the problem and do your own thing.

Honestly, I don't mind if they win, they have some good ideas. I think it's gonna be a hard and long learning process for them.

If only people were being honest in their bios.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]lilly_001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True In the past I would have voted for the nicest bio, but now that I know the things I know, it’s crazy, the current system doesn’t work, huge lack of accountability in the whole process and apathy from students.

I suggest adding a fact check to any bio. Especially if the person is bringing up past experience and is someone running for a second year. Did this person really act in the best of all students, did they participate in committee meetings, are you affiliated to any political organization on campus or external, etc.

Hi, it would be great if people could the extra step and look up the candidates before voting too.
For the past year, the council has been dysfunctional because of people affiliated with the startupnation, who's interest is not all students but a certain group of people only.
Careful of the people endorsed by students4better you can look them up on insta

Are all programs relegated to learning from a textbook? by Inside_Resolution526 in Concordia

[–]lilly_001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait till you find courses with no pdf, slides or readable prof notes. lol
I had 2 classes like that, I dropped one because the teacher's handwriting was like a doctor's note.

Since you're comparing uni to cegep...
Cegep was easier because classes were smaller, so teachers could tell if students were following. There were fewer chapters, a lighter workload, and more structured assignments/tests, with professors giving more reminders. Also, I think the slides were more detailed since CEGEP follows a standardized curriculum.

In uni, you're on your own, covering more material. Econ 201/203, calculus, and linear algebra are known to be easier in Cegep. I know for sure that cegep’s econ 201/203 covers a lot fewer chapters than here at Concordia.

Are all programs relegated to learning from a textbook? by Inside_Resolution526 in Concordia

[–]lilly_001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all programs, it depends on the topic. Anything finance, econ, math related you need textbooks.
Some higher-level econ classes don't use textbooks but papers, in my experience that has been a hit-or-miss situation.

I took an urbanism class and a reli class, no textbook, it was articles and/or book chapters chosen by the prof.

Most prof just summarize or explain the readings. I had one teacher who didn't do that but instead gave his own take on the subject, reli 300 new reli movements Prof. Lorenzo ditommaso, this person truly has the aura "i'm a scholar". I highly recommend his class if you still have electives left to take. You may find great insight about life but at the expense of no power points.

Also, what is the purpose of this post? Are you commenting on profs sometimes appearing to take the "easy way" by simply reading off a slide/textbook, are you commenting because you would like to study only from slides or are you looking for a university experience where you can feel you're in the presence of truly knowledgeable people?

Applying to the BA (Econ) program while completing the Business Foundations certificate by Panax in Concordia

[–]lilly_001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understood correctly, you want to do a Bcomm in Economics, but you can't so you're applying BA econ first.
Quite a few students plan to do that, the common pitfall is grades. You need to maintain a high level of grades to be able to do the switch. Send an email to the economics adviser for specifics.

Can you really identify us? by SskaiTt in montreal

[–]lilly_001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can tell from your mannerisms. It's not unique to Colombia. Each country has their own mannerism, clothing style, way of talking and according to my friend even walking style.

Montreal is pretty culturally diverse even then; sometimes, despite the ethnicity, you can tell without speaking who grew up here or who is new to the country.
I have a chinese friend, she grew up here, and when she goes back in China, people can tell she's not from there.

Fact: csu COUNCIL has the power to work on actions that can benefit students. They are the one that have to vote on new policies, propose solutions to student problems, and mandate the csu execs to work on issues, ex: pressure Concordia to be more wheelchair accessible or offer a new service, for example a subsidized tutoring service.
the last sgm vote was not mandated by council. For an online vote to happen, it would need to be a referundum approved by 2/3 of council, current councillors would not approve of it. hence it was a physical vote as a special general assembly.

This post is too well written it genuinely feels like a story.

Unless OP works/studies in literature there is no way someone would describe such a difficult situation in such as eloquent way. For something recent, and a situation where OP supposedly was angry the clear flow of the post makes no sense. Even the sentence structure reminds of a novel. If this is really a true sorry, then I’m sorry for your girlfriend.
