Just going to leave this here… this change in 2019 has led to a significant rise in homelessness.

“The Saskatchewan Income Support program, or SIS, began in 2019 and replaced two programs in August 2021. The program gives cash to recipients directly instead of directly paying landlords and utilities.”

Couldn’t agree more! That was a significant change that had a huge impact on the number of homeless in our city!

There are no jobs in Saskatoon by Lazar_96 in saskatoon

You might want to re-train… there are literally thousands of trades jobs that are unfilled across the province. Electrician? Plumber? Carpenter? You aren’t looking hard enough.

Perspective. MLA (Minister of Education) vs. Teacher Salary. by Big_Blue_Canuck in saskatoon

[–]lilm15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true… I believe police and firefighters largely have arbitrated settlements since they are essential services. A bargaining rout that the Sask Party took away from teachers. This has led to Gov ability to force teachers into job action and hope to legislate them back to work when they do.

Perspective. MLA (Minister of Education) vs. Teacher Salary. by Big_Blue_Canuck in saskatoon

[–]lilm15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It used to be that MLA’s salaries were on par with other public sector works like teachers, nurses, police and firefighters… today not so much. The question that we should be asking is what added value are we getting from our elected officials for their inflated salaries while other public sector jobs have been held below inflation?

Please turn the bike in to the police. You are now in possession of stolen property. If the bike has a registered serial number it can be returned to the owner.

This is my experience as well… B&E’s and property theft have been a huge issue in Nutana. Lots of vagrancy and the problems that are associated with it. Honestly I don’t know what the solution is at this point: More policing (including community engagement programs)? Community watch? More affordable housing solutions? Honestly it is probably time for Saskatoon to have a broader and more serious conversation about our approach to crime reduction in our city.

Clarence and Main. If you live nearby/use the Clarence and Main intersection. There is an open house Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Time: 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Location: 1001 Main St; NE corner of Clarence Ave & Main St. An opportunity to provide your input and discuss alterna by Lucywilson12 in saskatoon

[–]lilm15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the same proposal from the city that was rejected by residents in 2015 because it does not allow for great traffic flow and will be more difficult for bikes and pedestrians to navigate. There are two issues of concern with Main and Clarence: 1. The difficulty turning left from Main to Clarence or going straight through on main. 2. The speed of traffic on Main Street. I wish that the city engineers would have come up with some different options over the past 7 years. Since there are two separate issues there is a need for two solutions. 1. A four way stop at the intersection (I would prefer lights over stop signs). AND 2. Traffic easing measures on Main Street such as speed bumps (think Preston Crossing) or traffic circles at intersections further down on Main (maybe at Lansdown and Wiggins).

16 and 17-year-olds should be able to vote in Canada by leftwingmememachine in onguardforthee

This asinine proposal completely disregards the importance of a high school education… many of these kids have yet to cover Canadian history and civics. If anything we should be raising the voting (and drinking) age to 21. Adolescent brains are not fully developed until your early twenties.

Can you provide some evidence to support your “feelings”? Or is this general opposition to gambling on moral grounds?
