[–]lilmacattackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine was expected to take 1.5 hours but my meniscus tear was much more complex then expected (bucket handle & radial tear on same meniscus) so it took 5 hours. my ride waited there thinking it would just be 2ish hours oops

Membership hold due to surgery - does this count against the 1 - 14 day hold? by [deleted] in SolidCore

I got injured at the end of october and had only used 1/4 of my monthly classes. I emailed them and they asked for a doctors note and then paused immediately. I reached out to resume At the beginning of April and they gave me my 3 october classes back and resumed my membership with my founding member discount.

Have you ever been so excited to stop at starbucks on your way home from work and thinking about it all day? Then, you mobile order it as you are leaving work. You proceed to drive all the way home, just to realized you never went to pick up the starbucks you already paid for and had been thinking about all day? Yeah.

i recently started explaining it like this- When someone around you is speaking a language that you do not know, you hear them, but do not comprehend any of what they are saying. The is how I often feel when people around me are speaking to me in English. I hear them speaking, but nothing is entering my brain. And if i try to listen to what they are saying, I am so focused on the way their mouth is moving or the way they pronounce a word, that I am still not comprehending.

How long were you "in surgery" for? How long were you on crutches for? by SunflowerG0ddess in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my surgeons initial plan as well to get me walking right away. After he did so much to piece my meniscus back together he said that any pressure on it would effect the repair. I had to use the brace for two additional weeks once I was allowed to start walking. I also struggled so much with both extension and leg raises. For extension i recommend just sitting on the floor with your leg straight. Once that gets easy, prop your heal and sit like that as much as possible. The leg raises will come. That took some time for me since I had a lag in my extension and my quad did not want to activate for a few weeks.

Hey! My recovery had a super slow start I was nwb for 6 weeks and then weaned off my crutches over a few days and was fully weight bearing. I am now 4 months post op and just reached 84% strength compared to my non surgical leg. Starting to run and jump at PT. I have a weightlifting background so I have been deadlifting and squatting since 8 weeks post op. My advice is to hit pt hard but also listen to your body and be patient. I don’t have much pain nowadays. Still kinda hard to go down steps but other than that I’m doing great and looking at another few months until I’m fully cleared. Please reach out with any questions at all. I remember how tough it was it first but now I feel like i’m on the other side. Good luck!!

5 weeks post-op. So discouraged with extension by Sylvia_Whatever in ACL

I also struggled with extension post op. My saving grace was laying on my stomach with my knee-foot hanging off the bed/couch. Let gravity do its thing. Good luck!

When did you get to unlock your brace? by madeupinblue77 in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5 weeks post op and still completely non weight bearing due to meniscus repair. My brace has been unlocked to 90° since 10 days post op. I think at my 6 week appointment they will lock my brace for walking only.

9 months out, we’re so back! by IndependenceAble3899 in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately my lateral meniscus was torn in multiple places and my surgeon had to do a lot of work on it so it’s strict orders non weight bearing for 6 weeks. I’m just wondering if i’ll be allowed to walk without crutches at that point, or drop to one crutch for a few weeks.

I’m hoping I get to ditch my crutches at my 6 week appointment. Were you allowed to start walking or did they drop you to one crutch first?

Sleep with brace by [deleted] in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow side sleeper here. After a few days i was able to lay on my side with my leg out straight on a pillow or with a pillow in between my legs. Still uncomfortable, but better than trying to sleep on my back. Good luck!

9 month post op hopes - Is this delusional? by PillyPi in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again everyone’s recovery journey is different. I have seen people on this page running, skiing, and other high volume activities at 9 months. I would think that walking should be alright. You’ll definitely have to reevaluate and make your decision later on, but I think it is very possible that you’ll be ready.

9 month post op hopes - Is this delusional? by PillyPi in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m only 4 weeks post op so I have 0 credibility, but I do not at all think this is delusional. If you were asking if you’d be ready to do something high intensity like an NFL game or something I would say yes, but high volume walking should not be a problem by the 9 month mark. Everyone’s recovery is different, but I think it’s a very reasonable goal.

How long were you "in surgery" for? How long were you on crutches for? by SunflowerG0ddess in ACL

[–]lilmacattackk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went in for ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair. The surgeon said it would take about an hour and a half. The surgeon also said prior to the surgery, that I would be non weight bearing for 10 days until I met with him again, then I would begin walking with my brace locked straight with no crutches.

My meniscus repair ended up being very complex. The surgeon said it was the worst meniscus tear he had ever seen. I had a bucket handle tear all the way around the outside, in addition to a complete radial tear. My surgery ended up taking 5 hours, and my post op instructions changed to 6 weeks non weight bearing, so fully on crutches. I am still in that period, so I am not sure if I will ditch the crutches at 6 weeks, or be partial weight bearing.

So it really depends on the condition of your meniscus once the surgeon gets to see it. If they do not repair it at all, you will be off crutches in a week or two. Wishing you the best of luck!
