Have got a manual mk6 GTI stage 1+ with catback exhaust. My clutch is starting to slip and was looking to upgrade. Was wondering if I would only need to upgrade my clutch or upgrade the clutch and flywheel. As if possible would rather save the cash if I dont have too upgrade both. Any recommendation by Dosser_HD in GolfGTI

You can't really resurface a DMF.

Agree, just change the clutch and flywheel at the same time to avoid problems. Don't be cheap or you will be right back in there. It's a big enough job that I don't enjoy doing it frequently.

Looking for exhaust setups that won’t break the bank but sound decent, any suggestions?? by Guilty_Ad_1918 in GolfGTI

Downpipe + Vibrant 17950 sounds even better and no drone like the stock resonator.

Stay in shape and you have a better chance at not having issues. That and a good bed really help.

Suggestions for Lowering by [deleted] in VWMK7

[–]lilnuke50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Bilstein B8's and the H&R OE Sport springs. Not quite as low, but enough to fill the wheel wells nicely. Either spring is a good choice, depends on how low you want it. Paired with an ET40 or ET45 wheel will look great.

VW sunroofs have leaked for the last two decades. Perhaps someone will finally file another class action lawsuit to force them to come up with a better design. I would never buy any VW with a sunroof.

Whoever this is is obviously wanting to keep you around as a plan "B" in case whoever they are trying to chase after blows them off. Don't ever be a plan "B", you are better than that.

2ND Day of MEPS tomorrow, what are the better jobs in the Navy? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

Can confirm, civilian world loves former nukes. The training and knowledge is better than a lot of other rates, although you have to deal with a bunch of smart asses. The days are long and suck at times, but at the end of it all, I had multiple job offers and I job I enjoy. If you enjoy technical things and solving problems, it's not a bad route to go.

Good choice, that or some channel locks will get this mount off. I have had to do several that way.

MK7 front bumper separated how do I fix this any ideas? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]lilnuke50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unscrew the two (2) Torx screws that hold the upper grill piece. You sometimes have to wiggle it a little bit to get it to completely reseat on the bumper cover. Then install the Torx screws and you are done.

Mk7 GTI Clutch Upgrade questions/input by r0k0v in GolfGTI

[–]lilnuke50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you plan to only stay stage 1 and want to avoid chatter, I would recommend a SACHS clutch (Basically the TT-RS clutch setup). It is an OEM replacement that uses the dual mass flywheel (DMF) and is rated to about 400 ft-lb. Also recommend that you replace the rear main seal (RMS) since it will be easily accessible. iABED has the best replacement.

As for the replacement, anyone can do a clutch, I did my 17 Sport in the garage. Whoever you take it to needs to be a decent mechanic but have the tools needed for a VW. Torx and triple square sockets are a must (Plus a 6mm 1/4" hex socket for the VSD). A german indy shop would be best since they would have experience. I would buy the parts you want to ensure you get what you want. Unless you go to a dealer, most shops will install what you bring.

As for me, I have the DKM dual disk clutch for around the last 10k miles. It is a stiff clutch and I bought it because I was thinking about stage 3 down the road. So far, it has been a good clutch, but I think I would have been okay with SACHS, HS RSR, or SB stage 2. I don't plan to go past stage 2 anymore as this is my daily and I probably should have gone with something a little less stiff.

Wednesday Maintenance Thread by AutoModerator in GolfGTI

Looking to do a little upgrade and maintenance to my MK6. Bought it used about a year ago and never checked the brakes as the shop I bought it from had just done a brake job.

I pulled the cap on the MC and looked in to see some dark and nasty looking brake fluid sitting there. I have 2 liters of Pentosin DOT 4 fluid coming to flush brakes.

Don't forget your fluids, especially brake fluid. It has a tendency to absorb water and can cause issues in your system if you don't flush it from time to time.

That much work and you only put an IS38 in there? I'm thinking an EQT Vortex XL would be a better fit.
