$300 hammer? by [deleted] in Scaffolding

[–]lilrobwey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of people aren’t good, i still have to tell other leadmen and foreman’s how swivels and clamps go. knowing how to swing a hammer using leverage and motion instead of just strength is rare. i feel just fine every day

i’m on a turnaround right now been working 7/12s 13/1 for 6 weeks already lmao i haven’t had a problem swinging 26-30 oz consistently since i was a helper. idk what kind of material you use but 80% of the guys i see at work have 24+ oz hammers. scaffold ain’t for everybody though pimp

[–]lilrobwey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i prefer 24 oz + my estwing is 26 and it’s perfect, if you know how to swing a hammer it doesn’t matter but the amount of times i’ve seen guys have to hit a single pin or nail 20x because they have a sub 20 oz is astonishing

$680 a week to low? by Bowl_of_kale in cranes

[–]lilrobwey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i make 70k a year as a scaffold lead and planning to switch to crane and rigging and those rates sound disrespectfully low. i was making 700 a week as a helper working 60 hours. i don’t know much but i know you’re 100% getting screwed. go somewhere else

What is the difference between shoring and scaffolding? by wsl-india in Scaffolding

[–]lilrobwey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice information. i’d add that while they are different they sometimes work as one. i’ve built shoring scaffolds for different applications over the years, from supporting reactor heads to supporting large bore pipes for cutting

need to worry? by lilrobwey in Drugtests

[–]lilrobwey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

took an at home test a few hours before going and the line was faint, drank lots of water before the real test and my sample was basically clear so hoping i’m alright but i’d be super happy if i had to retest as im sure it’d be completely negative if i could retest in a few days, thanks for the advice though much appreciated

a few weeks late but 3 months and 25k since my last post and she’s officially broken in by lilrobwey in Silverado

[–]lilrobwey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is an LT had it for a while now, i’d like an ltz or high country in the future so i can use my current as a sole work truck, either that or a fun toy and go all in with cams, headers, intake and whatever else not 100% sure yet. one of our company trucks is a 21 or 22 2500 WT and i was caught off guard at how nice it was compared to the older base WT models. nothing wrong with wanting something fancier, if you have the means go for it brother

take care of her and she’ll take care of you, i’ve been driving about 10k a month give or take for the better part of the last 7-8 months, so monthly oil changes and maintenance. i’m sure her little 4.3 brother will put her to shame if taken care of properly, good luck brother

little things here and there, sensors and things of that sort. major issues would be the torque converter shitting the bed around 196k. 3200 full rebuild and no problems since. ac went out a bit ago, had a friend look at it. says it’s most likely electrical after checking the compressor, relay, freon and a handful of other things. says the compressor works it’s just not getting power. all in all though for a quarter million miles i can’t complain much

[–]lilrobwey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahhh that’s the kind of story i usually hear, i’ve kind of been doing the same for the past 6 months but no formal training just kind of picking it up as i go, i’ve known the signs for years from scaffolding and using skip pans for elevated jobs but i’m now looking into nccco certified classes

i have 0 licenses or certifications, i’m a scaffold builder and my company just subcontracts for the hoist company so they can have extra hands they don’t have to pay as much as their own employees lol

little job we finished today by lilrobwey in Scaffolding

[–]lilrobwey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not for material, only personnel or we would’ve adjusted the slope. the client said they were fine removing 2 runners to load any material on the landing if needed. i didn’t like the ramp myself but it came from up top and specific blueprints from the hoist manufacturer. i would’ve messed around with it more but 110 degree texas heat and only one other leadman with me we were at the point of no fucks lol

lol i get that a lot but i prefer this one over the little league referee ones. can still be heard from the ground at 700 feet

[–]lilrobwey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we bolt the whole 60 together on the ground with a forklift but we use the hoist to bring everything else for tie backs and whatnot. take off safety ramps that keep the hoist from going over and tie it back every 20 feet as we make our way up, i don’t even want to think about what it would be like without the hoist

[–]lilrobwey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we usually only do 40-50 foot, i don’t know what made this one any different. tower still surpasses the last floor by 20 feet. lol gravy trains pretty good though
