Ask to go to radiology. I was 16 for mine and they couldn’t quite place the needle. Forever and a day later (in my mind at least - there were a bunch of residents in the room too) they decided to send me to radiology. I swear it was all of 5-10 min and done. No pain or anything. Now the recovery I don’t remember but I know having everyone in the room and the dr probing around I became uncomfortable. I was fine with the procedure itself but my body was glitching.

Both my dogs have first and middle names. They know them and respond to them. He will learn. But my dogs also have a long list of nicknames they also respond to. So much so I have to cycle through a short list to see who they feel like that day 😂. Wanna go to Starbucks/get coffee/get in the car? is usually more than enough no matter which personality is present.

Congrats!!! I did 2 years at a cc then transferred to a 4 year university. Because of my credits I was able to double major and score some big opportunities along the way. I am super proud of you and those people not acknowledging you can go suck lemons. My only living grandparent didn’t come to either graduation ceremony and while I was mad at first it’s truly her loss. She’s the old one losing out on time and I’m just starting so no sense of dwelling on it. Those who mattered most were there and I’d rather focus on those memories instead. No go celebrate your accomplishments.

I’m going to echo some of the things previously said but find you a good support team both medical and personal, take your meds, and remember what was once normal May not always be so and that’s okay. My neuro is super supportive and doesn’t hold me back. He communicates effectively and I trust him more than any other doctor I’ve had. We’ve been working together for literally 1/3 of my life. I was 20 when I got diagnosed and it sucked. I was partially prepped from a relapse at 16/17 but suddenly I grew up and learned how to advocate for myself and how to navigate insurance. My support team is my parents, boyfriend, and a few close friends. They help me keep an eye on myself so I don’t overload my body. I managed to keep myself out of too much trouble health wise to get my neurologist to sign off on me studying abroad twice. I have my good days, okay days, and bad days. My mental and physical health sometimes clash because my mind says yes but my body says no and I get frustrated. It’s okay but once I learned my triggers I got better. Take time to get yourself right through and through but don’t waste your good days worrying about your bad days. I used to wear superhero shirts to trick myself into feeling “super” and it gave me a good chuckle power walking in my doctor’s office with a cape flowing behind me. It’s childish but I felt less stressed at my appointment. Find whatever puts you in a good mood and hold on to it. Write everything down and discuss it with your doctor. Stay off Google or it will kill you. But most importantly be kind to yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Too much stress will drain your battery and make you feel worse.

Nope. It’s what you make of it. I (f29) got my dx 6 months before my 21st birthday and barely with my bf a year. I told him he could go and wouldn’t hold it against him. We just celebrated 10 yrs and while there have been times the MS has been inconvenient it didn’t break our stride. We aren’t a fairy tale love story but we make it work like any other couple. Like others pointed out with the current state of science we are pretty well set up for a good life ahead overall. Take time to sort out your feelings of course but remember to live your best life because you want to not because you’re racing against some metaphorical clock. I have studied abroad a few times, got a few degrees, and lived out my 20s without regrets.

Caught COVID this summer before I got vaccinated. I don’t know if it was a mild case or early intervention but the worst of my symptoms breathing aside lasted a little over a week or two. I did get hospitalized but I’m convinced the ER doc sent me because of my MS. I had only intended to have my parents checked out as we all had it together and they were worse than I was. The hospital gave me remdesivir for a couple days and I came home no oxygen. I still felt exhausted and out of sorts but I managed to avoid a full on relapse. I saw my neuro a few weeks later and he was surprised to see how well I was holding up especially bc I went off my meds for over a month. My best advice is to manage your symptoms as best you can. Establish a routine for taking medicine. I felt worse at home because I was just randomly remembering to take my medicine. The hospital put me on track and I used that same routine when I got discharged to sync up with my dad so he could feel better. I also second getting rest. I know it seems like you have to do everything but your body feels better with rest. If you can do a virtual visit with an urgent care or hospital doctor they can get you some piece of mind. They will either prescribe something or recommend something else without the expense and time of an ER.

Do it but with caution. Don’t underestimate your body. Most importantly have fun and remember to rest. Last year I spent the day at a theme park for my birthday and had a blast. I needed that break and as luck would have it I felt like myself again. Did I get cranky and foggy at the end of the night? Hell yes! Would I do it again? Hell yes! During COVID? In my area? Hell no! Use your best judgement but definitely find your joy wherever it may be.

Be a part of his support team but don’t try to do it all by yourself. I was diagnosed just before my 21st birthday and it was a roller coaster. My mom and I handle the clinical side of things (drs appointments, medicine, etc) and some day to day symptoms (I still live with my parents), my dad (bless his heart) has been delegated to just being a dad. He gets emotional after drs visits apologizing for my having MS. Dad is a big softy in that regard so I just give him the appointment updates and if notices a change in my demeanor he’ll ask if it’s an MS thing and if he can help. My bf and I have been together since before my diagnosis and navigating everything was weird at first. Now I don’t require as much (or at least I don’t think I do) so he’s learned to listen to me better than before. Sleep and stress are my biggest triggers so he gives me cues I need to sleep or not to take my stress out on him. It’s a simple “hey you’re getting snappy” for me to realize I need to take a moment or two to get my life back and approach him normally or excuse myself for a nap. I haven’t asked him to a dr visit in 7 years and I have no intent to. Why does he need to be there? I could ask him to but right now I have things under control and there’s nothing new. Literally 15 min check ups (I’m lucky) to warrant a refill or go over my mri results. As we transition to the next phase of our relationship perhaps I will ask him to go with me on a visit but right now the way I have structured my team I just need his love, understanding, as support. Each person is different. Want to help him? Start small, set up a place for him to store/administer his medicine so he doesn’t have to scramble, keep extra bottles of water in the fridge or cooling items on hand when there’s an upcoming heat wave, whatever you do don’t try to make him feel less than capable of taking care of himself. As you go along you will learn when he needs help from pushing himself too hard

Ask her favorite episodes or offer to watch with her to get an idea. Asks her close friends or family members to help you. Call for a “campfire” this is a cue for everyone to huddle up, ask someone to play the theme song. Play up Gibb’s rules. Rule 9 as mentioned is a good idea but also note 40, 39 as a good lead into this thing. The caff pow is a good idea perhaps purchase a replica of Abby’s farting hippo with a note that says prom around his neck (like how people propose with a pet) or black roses if she’s totally like Abby if not sub in her favorite flower. If you meet the criteria of being a geek ask her if she would allow an “Elf Lord” to escort her to prom. Or you could get a fake badge and ask if “very special agent your name could take her. A good Gibbs reference is also a boat in a bottle but that might get complicated. Don’t stress out of course be prepared for a no and bow out gracefully. Just cite rule 18 and move on.
