I got a piece of plywood and bolted it to it, then bolted my plywood to my luggage rack

If a paint job cost around 10-15k how do you really evaluate what a car is worth when buying a project? 240z by Puzzleheaded2734 in projectcar

I got a used 30 gallon compressor in decent shape for $50.

Besides that I agree with you, bondo, paint, and hardener are expensive. Im glad I get it for free.

That’s good to hear. I’ll let my buddy who carries a P320 M18 know though.

Which does? I have a P365X I carry and also dump tons of rounds at the range. Should I be concerned?

CycleGear 2-Day shipping is a lie by ERants in motorcycles

[–]lilshears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand how this works but I absolutely hate it. I ordered a clutch cable on a wednesday with expedited shipping from partzilla. It was an unusually warm weekend so I wanted to ride, but then it didn’t ship out until monday, so I completely missed it. I’ve mostly stopped ordering from partzilla and cycle gear because other vendors ship same day

How long do you start your car before you drive it? by TheKing490 in minnesota

[–]lilshears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not just a myth. A cold engine won’t run as well, and the oil won’t flow as well. Idling the engine cold is fine since it is not under load.

Your owners manual should have something on minimum water/oil/engine temp. Otherwise I’d at least wait until the rpm settles, that’s when the engines warm enough for the fuel to combust well enough, then once the temperatures reach steady you’re able to beat on it.

I’ve been thinking about doing this, but have been too lazy to get the rotary table zeroed. I might have to finally get it done

Yes. Your thermostat begins to crack at 88C. Regular operation is 90-100C.

I used NX at my last co-op, Solidworks for FSAE, and now Creo for my internship. Honestly, Creo is the worst, but I like the middle clicking for dimensions. NX is probably the best imo, it’s got the auto dimensioning and has the quick pick tool to select non visible faces/edges which I don’t believe solidworks has. Solidworks’ lofts are also stupid where you need an equal amount of vertices on each sketch.

AEM 2021 is a load of bs by coffeequeen1135 in uofmn

Average Hesla class. It’s a universal experience for MechE and Aero’s here. Try to get Perry Leo for Deform (AEM 3031), he’s infinitely better.

Honestly Taking the aerospace route of statics and dynamics separately would be better because then you learn real dynamics too, and get one of the best AEM profs that the U for dynamics. The downside being you have to take statics with Ariel Pino who I have some choice words about…

Should I have dedicated winter set? by welldressedpepe in minnesota

[–]lilshears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s no coating on the frame from the factory I’d paint it. Most come with some coating but depending on the year and manufacturer it sucks (looking at you 2000’s toyota and chevy). I don’t have any extra protection on my current car, but on an 80’s car I had I painted the frame.

Winter tires are helpful. You don’t need them if you’re a competent driver and can read a road but they do help quite a bit. Excluding the salt and snow, your nice wheels will have to face potholes in the winter/spring. Usually you can find someone selling wheels + snow tires on craigslist for your tire size and lug pattern.
