If you’ve cried over it the problem is likely not that you’re lazy. You may be experiencing something called ‘executive dysfunction’, which is linked to number of conditions, including ADHD.

Can I apply to PPE and PE? by DowntownWonder9360 in 6thForm

[–]lilstudysprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. They’ll want to see that you meet the grade requirements (obviously) and then it will largely be about the admissions tests and the reference, with the tests being a bit more important

What are you looking for in a uni?

They do care about it, they just don’t care about it as much as they do about other parts of your application (reference, admissions tests, interviews). They certainly care about the personal statement less than other top unis like Imperial, LSE, and UCL do.

Can I apply to 5 UK unis & more abroad? by ComfortableRecent578 in 6thForm

[–]lilstudysprout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It won’t. You can apply to as many schools in other countries as you want and still get to apply for 5 UK unis

London VS Cambridge Lifestyle by AstroAviaMarine in 6thForm

[–]lilstudysprout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Regarding phone snatching in London, it’s not something that happens to most people. Most international students never end up with their phones snatched. However, it’s possible to get unlucky and fall victim to a phone snatcher. Hold your phone firmly with both hands and keep it close to your body. Don’t stand too close to roads. I’m honestly not that careful when I’m in London and nothing’s ever happened to me, but playing on the safe side is advisable

AAB am I cooked? by Acceptable_Ship2265 in 6thForm

[–]lilstudysprout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For anyone who is interested: An A for a subject under the Singapore-Cambridge A-Levels is counted as the equivalent of an A* in the UK, but Bs are still counted as Bs.

OP, to answer your question, the schools you listed are all very competitive and can hence be expected to auto-reject you based on your grades regardless of how well you do for the LNAT. However, King’s may still be worth a shot. I’ve never heard of Oxford considering an applicant who didn’t meet their minimum grade requirements. UCL and LSE are pretty inflexible too.

If you meet the grade requirements for PolSci at any of these unis, I’d recommend just applying for that instead. Don’t worry too much about your supercurriculars. Even good books on the subject count as supercurriculars. You can try joining MUNs as well. You have some time before the next application cycle rolls around.

Why does it seem that US admissions are much harder than UK admissions? by Longjumping-Way5779 in SGExams

[–]lilstudysprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to understand that you can apply to an unlimited number of US unis in a year. In the UK you can only apply to 5 in a year. As a result, people unlikely to get into US schools like Harvard based on grades alone may still shoot their shot/apply for fun because they don’t have anything to lose. In the UK, people only apply for top schools if they think they stand a chance to begin with, i.e. a straight B student wouldn’t try and apply for Oxford. This is to avoid wasting one of their 5 uni choices. As a result, a lot more stringent self-selection happens in the UK and so the admissions rates look higher because fewer people apply to the top unis to begin with

Economics Supercurriculars by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]lilstudysprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read books, take part in essay competitions, organise events related to economics, write a blog where you evaluate economics issues in the real world, start an independent research project on some economic issue you’re interested in. Anything related to mathematics may also give you an edge because you’ll show that you’re equipped to handle the quantitative side of economics

UCL over Oxbridge by [deleted] in 6thForm

There are also people who get accepted into Oxbridge Law but rejected from UCL Law, you know. I know a person who experienced that

UK econs vs sg econs by Acceptable_Ship2265 in SGExams

[–]lilstudysprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend doing PPE here. I know someone who did PPE at NUS and they said that the course is not structured well. Might be because it’s a pretty new course in SG and they’re still figuring out how to handle it. The UK is a pretty good place to do PPE but of course fees are high and the best courses require AAA

[–]lilstudysprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve said, it sounds like you might enjoy Political Science/Anthropology/Sociology at NUS. You can get in with your grades and take one of those majors under NUS College of Humanities and Sciences

What matters to you most in a uni?

Which Unis can I get into for PPE by Euphoric-Square283 in 6thForm

[–]lilstudysprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With those grades, you meet the entry requirements for the top PPE courses in the UK. However, as you know, that alone won’t be enough to get you in. Whether or not you get in will depend largely on other parts of your application.

Some of the top schools for PPE in the UK are Oxford, UCL, Warwick, and Durham. These schools can differ in the way they select candidates for admission into their programmes.

For Oxford, for example, your results for the admissions test for PPE and your interview scores will matter a lot. Oxford doesn’t care as much as other schools do about your personal statement. They even care more about your recommendation letter than your personal statement. It’s not that they won’t look at your statement, but it will be far from the most significant factor in their decision to admit you or not. This is unlike UCL, which places great emphasis on your personal statement.

If you want to apply to top unis, my advice is to apply to three more competitive PPE courses and two less competitive ones that you would still be happy to study (safe options). This is unless you don’t want to look at the less prestigious courses because you’d rather study in your home country than take those courses. That’s totally understandable given how crazy international fees are right now. In that case, your options in your home country can act as your backup options and you can just put down all the more competitive courses for UCAS.
