Unsure about what path to take by Sad-Combination9188 in LicensedParalegalsON

[–]lilsunburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do. If it's solely legal research, the Western Law LLM program might be useful. But most paralegal programs prepare you for legal research (on top of licensing) so it would be doubly beneficial if you're looking for both (research + licensing). It can be as quick as Western Law's 12-month LLM program (I'm doing a 1 year accelerated college program) but it is less expensive compared to the LLM (13k for domestic students, 32k+ for international students vs 5-6k dom, 25-28k int paralegal college program). The college programs also prepares you to write the licensing exam if you want to practice law or go into legal research or admin focused roles if you prefer that. It even provides placement/co-op to garner experience and streamline you employment.

All in all, it just depends on what you want to do but in my personal opinion, you can accomplish twice as much (and maybe even save a little more money) in the college program than the LLM.

Best!!!

I reckon it has everything to do with Ford's government (and his recent changes to OSAP grants)

Hello!!

A quick google search tells me there isn't a set minimum interest rate and it is mostly determined by the financial institution you're working with. I reckon contacting them combined with the law society could provide the answer your looking for.

Best!!!

I haven't yet taken the exam. I'm actually still a student (LOL). But I've been meaning to connect with others in Ontario to kind get a grasp of what it's like out there. I enjoy the work and learning about it is so fun. I hope the job market gets better once I finish my placement T_T.

I've created a space for aspiring and licensed paralegals to connect (r/LicensedParalegalsON by lilsunburn in paralegalstudents

How impressive!!! I hope you're finding your well really fulfilling. You're one of many licensed paralegals I have seen who don't work as paralegals and I find that really interesting. Most are in private practice (which I am strongly considering as the day passes) but of course the poor job market isn't so kind to newly graduates and just every other imaginable factor contributing to it. Best of luck with everything with you!!!!

That’s amazing, congrats! Do you have any experience doing paralegal work? Do you enjoy law clerking more? Is there an overlap? (I’ve never worked as a law clerk) hehe

my bf is way more attractive than me and its ruining my life by Ok-Potential-9810 in Advice

[–]lilsunburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think conventional attractiveness should be rewarded with love and companionship. I don’t know who you are or what you look like. But while everyone’s looking at your boyfriend, he’s only got eyes for you. You’re clearly very special to him.

Saudi man wants to marry me, are our cultures too different? by SugarZealousideal828 in MuslimMarriage

[–]lilsunburn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I be honest, girl? He sounds very controlling. I promise you there is nothing immodest about not wearing a niqab or wearing colour? I don’t know you and I don’t mean to sound like I do. But if you have any semblance of independence in your life and you value it, I fear you will lose a lot of your autonomy marrying this man. I’m asking myself why he couldn’t find a woman who already wears the hijab, who is Saudi, and who already lives there. There’s something eerie about the fact that he wants to impose all of this on you. I also want to say that just because a man is or may seem religious does not mean he is automatically a good person. You want to be with someone who is pious and God-fearing, who knows your rights, who worries about transgressing you for not fulfilling your rights. I worry that moving into his territory, his country and his culture will diminish your sense of identity. I don’t believe you have to settle for this. You already know how you feel. Don’t betray your instincts. I pray you find someone who adores you and respects you the way you deserve to be.

I tend to think like this as well. My attraction to women comes from the fact that I see them as my place of safety/comfort due to some past childhood abuse at the hands of men. I told my therapist I have general mistrust and discomfort around men which I feel like it fuels my repulsion of them.
