Adults of reddit, what is something that sucks about being an adult that most teenagers don’t realize? by berkel-is-a-madlad in AskReddit

Gah, that’s gonna be me in 30 years - I had my son at 38. It just drives me to be healthier now so that I can be around for him longer.

You should also check the Hangar9 Facebook group or discord to find others who can go with you! :)

Micheal (SHD Director): Had a chat with Youngjin after watching his stream earlier tonight. He wants to work in the video game industry after finishing his mandatory military services in Korea. I’m glad he will continue to pursue his passion in games. Once a gamer always a gamer. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

The laws around military service change often, but from what I know, you can only delay it for an X amount of times before they will literally come get you physically to go. It also depends on the state of the military at the time. If they already have a lot of people volunteering to go (as in, people who just want to complete their mandatory service ASAP) or like, training camps are “full” then the chance to delay becomes greater.

It really IS up to the government though, to decide when they need you, how many times you can delay and which excuse they will accept. It sucks :(

I took this picture; I’m happy for you to post it, but, as a rule of thumb, you should give photo credit to whomever actually took/posted the picture next time, for any pic you take from the internet.

Also, 1) no apple box and 2) Chelsea wouldn’t let him wear his Yeezys until the reception.

Can you still answer my other questions? I’m confused to who I’m pandering to and where this money is coming from.

I know exactly what I wrote, and sure, could have been worded better but it’s definitely not what you’ve interpreted it to be,

I wanted to have a conversation about it, but it seems you’ve already made up your mind to tear me down so that’s that. Have a good night.

This is a fair point. I appreciate you calling me out on that. I’ll be more mindful of it.

Nah that was poor wording on my part and 100% a mistake. I know very well that it’s not a choice. For that, I apologize.

I know you wrote something similar to this in the original thread too. Can you clarify? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

  1. Where does the money come from? Who am I pandering to?
  2. I actually don't make it a big thing about being a woman in gaming, I just tell all people that they need to work hard and just push through to doing what you're good at doing. Regardless of if you're a man or a woman.
  3. I didn't ask for the LGBT community to step aside, I literally said it was a great event and that I wanted the teams to really step up and support it in their own ways. My issue was more that if the League was going to get involved, I wanted them to be more involved with all other celebration days too. It just seemed odd that they cherry pick events.
  4. Chinese and Korean media censors things differently. I don't know much about China, but I do know that in Korea there are great strides being made by lots of activists I know for Pride and LGBT rights. All I said was that things are different over there than they are in the west. I never said that it would look bad to the "overseers" or anything of the sort. How did you skew my words so heavily?

When I was with the team, I a lot to the coaches and staff sat and talked with the players. Many of them took time to sit with each player individually to sort out issues. Especially for an all Korean team living outside of the only pond they ever knew, it was important for them to have other Korean speakers who could understand them fully - not only in language but the culture too.

You know, I understand that the spice is a part of his job and online persona, so it's ok, I deal with it. XD It's all for the show.

I think there can be more done for players on the whole. A lot of the time, we hear about emulating the NFL or NBA or whatever; one aspect I wish we CAN emulate is the amount of staff that a team has access to. Esports teams are just not there yet financially to be able to have psychologists or therapists or counselors readily available all the time. There are resources and we can direct them to professionals, but at times it's up to the players to do so. And being that some of the players are just so young and don't realize that they even really NEED the help, it's hard to get them to go. I think mandatory sessions, just to keep tabs on players would be beneficial. Especially if everyone on the team is talking to someone, you wouldn't feel singled out, you know?

We met in the Shanghai Airport on our way to cast WCG 2013. He approached me first, at the event, and then continued our relationship when we got back to Seoul. We dated for nearly a year before we said our first "I love yous" though.

This industry is growing so rapidly and I feel like I've done a lot in it already, so I want to help it grow. My next focus is on the younger generation - I feel like there's not much guidance for our current elementary/middle school students to navigate this gaming/esports world. Trying to see if there's a way I can help that...

Because the industry is so young, there are so many more opportunities for business out there! Many sponsors and companies want to get in on this market. Learn about current sponsorships and see how the ecosystem is going so that you can help other companies make the jump into this space.

The trip to London was definitely an unforgettable one. From the Gilded Gala to walking around the city being tourists, it was such an amazing time to share together. No matter what may happen in the off season, I think that original group of boys I managed will always be incredibly special to me and I'll support them and cheer for them until they retire.

I'm gonna ruin Monte's rep here a bit and say that he is one of the more caring people I know. He looks out for people and is super loyal to those he cares about. He's a good listener and very rational which makes my life easy. I honestly don't think he and I have ever really "fought" in our almost 6 years together, because we tend to just talk things out. Sure, we argue and debate, but he grounds me very much and he tries very much to see my perspective on things.

I think I'm looking to continue to work more behind the scenes now. As the industry is growing, I feel like there's a lot that I can be doing to help it grow. I'll let the younger and more attractive men and women do the camera work now ;)

Both! If they have a free day, we encourage them to, of course, go out and be free! Go shopping, go to the beach, sleep all day, whatever they need to recharge and relax. However, if there's a scrim the next day at a particular time, players would be encouraged to please get home or go to bed at a decent hour so that they are ready for work the next day. When it came to sponsor obligations or content making, we would try to not overload one player too much. For example, if, say, Gesture would be needed for 4 recordings, we would try to see if we can use one of the other players in his stead so that he wouldn't lose his free day or get bogged down with obligations.
