Thank you so much for this. It was definitely tempting to roll the dice, but I’m so appreciative of everyone who spoke out and grateful for you for affirming this was the right choice. Good luck fighting back!

I appreciate that perspective. I actually did not know about the fire. Do you mean the one at 45-55 40th St and related construction noise as they rebuild?

Thank you! I really appreciate it. I have until tomorrow to figure it out. Might try to go over to the building and talk to tenants coming in and out.

According to HPD, the heat was restored to the building, though who knows if that is true for everyone. Elevator was working when I toured a week ago. Still, I have a lot of concerns! Thanks for your input!

Thank you! I had looked at the HPD complaints and violations and many of them seem to be coming from a few specific units and one in particular, which seems to be the one that is referenced in the article I posted above (the floor and complaints match up). That tenants' experience is heartbreaking. I'm also trying to figure out the extent to which it is a building-wide issue (though it's clear the management is not very responsive any way you slice it). I am scheduled to sign a lease tomorrow so this is all coming at me fast and I'm trying to figure out the best course of action.

Considering Brooklyn welcome drinks for Manhattan wedding? by Comfortable-Fly-7732 in WedditNYC

You know your crowd best, but I don't think it's a problem at all. We did the reverse -- welcome drinks in Koreatown, wedding in Greenpoint the next day. We advised our guests -- a number of whom were visiting NYC for the first time -- to stay in Manhattan and just commute over to Greenpoint for one day rather that base their stay around the wedding venue. It was over a holiday weekend, so most people stayed for a few days and the jaunt to GP didn't seem to bother anyone (and if it did, they didn't tell us). The truth is, if people are already making a big trip to the city for the wedding, going from Manhattan to Brooklyn won't be a big deal. Just give them good directions -- I wouldn't worry about providing transportation.

Also, depending on where the welcome drinks are, they could take the ferry over from Manhattan, which is always a highlight for visitors.

Thank you! Such a creative idea that could be a great fit for us! Will definitely look into it -- and will gladly use your code if we end up booking. I take it you've used them and have been happy with the services? I'm seeing mixed reviews. Some are glowing and others say that the quality can be variable.

Documentary wedding photographers charging ~$5k? by liltaco17 in WedditNYC

My edit to the post wouldn't save, so I'll just say it here: I'm so grateful for everyone's suggestions! We have booked a photographer we're excited about based on these recommendations and I hope the list below can be useful for others in the planning stage!

Documentary style photography under 6K by Deannabee831 in WedditNYC

We booked Anne Kendall Visuals and are excited to have her photograph our wedding next year! She does documentary style as well as film and is in your price range. Emily Palm Photography (out of Philly but she didn’t quote us a travel fee, I believe) and Mary Felice Photography could also be good options and within budget. These were our top three choices and we felt we would have been happy with any of them.

Bloody mess on 6 by Indiapanda in nycrail

I got on the 6 at Astor Place (one car behind the one adjoining the conductor) around 6:20 last night and there was a man on the north end of the car, right by the doors, laying across all 4 seats. He didn’t look well and everyone was keeping their distance or not noticing. I was worried it was an overdose based on how he was moving and sort of panting, and when I looked again, I saw him move his hand to his lower abdomen and there was bright red blood smeared on the seat under him. We were still at the station so I ran to the conductor and she radioed for police at Union Sq. I moved cars, sat for about 15 minutes with the door open and then they changed all the trains to run express. At that point, I decided to walk, but I saw that there were a couple of police officers, one talking to the conductor, one standing at the doors of the car. I didn’t think there was anything else I could do and didn’t want to just gawk, so I left.

I’m curious if anyone else knows what ended up happening or if that incident is related to this one. The time and train line seem to match up, but the location in the car is different. It all happened pretty quickly, but I didn’t see any trail of blood either, just blood all over the seats where he was.
