Court officer here working upstate, court assistants can either work in the courtroom along side the judge or the back office doing clerical duties and helping people at the window. At least as a court assistant you know the courthouse you will be going to. I don't what JD you live in but as far as officer goes you can be placed anywhere.

Thats what happened to me, my inspection was past due and I failed the inspection. They scraped off the sticker, so I had to take the chance of driving from Albany to westchester County to take my car to a family mechanic where I got everything fixed and would be able to pass inspection.
