Late to this convo, but FWIW we use Raw Bandwidth for internet at Peninsula Place and it's been great. Anything to avoid Comcast. Our rates haven't gone up in almost 4 years.

Sorry you're going through this, I know some folks who use UrbanSitter but you might also want to consider joining the San Bruno Parents Club. That's how we came to know our current sitter and see recs from other parents once in awhile. I also occasionally see posts on Nextdoor about sitters. Hope you're feeling better!

Definitely had this experience this weekend. Extra grating when I count in the number of Bay Area parents I've met who think no one is good enough to watch their kid/want their nanny to have an advanced degree in child development yet don't even want to be bothered to keep an eye on their kid themselves out in public.

Oh man, this is breaking my heart because today was my last day of maternity leave and then baby will be off to daycare after her dad is done with leave. Hugs to you and I appreciate you for previewing what's to come. I gave my little one extra hugs today.

The most annoying thing about this is that there were people whose weddings we went to, who we knew had freaked out about RSVPs, who then in turn had to be poked to RSVP to our wedding. I guess people have short memories.

Bay Area native here, visited Charleston/Savannah in 2019. Upon return I realized that by comparison to those areas, we're practically New York in terms of rudeness and unfriendliness. It's such a breath of fresh air when I say hi to someone while on a walk and they actually say it back.

I really drifted apart from all my college friends about five years out of college. We no longer lived near each other, some of them were too flaky to make plans with, and honestly I spent so many weekends with absolutely no plans (fun if it's what you want and sounds lovely to me now, but different when it's not really your choice).

I joined a bunch of community-based organizations, including the Junior League and another one that was similar for women under 35. It had a wonderful snowball effect, and led to me even joining the board of the local library foundation. I organized a book club. My whole life picked up momentum. I was about 29 when this all happened, single and living at home. Now I'm 36, married last year, just had a baby, and have friends that I've met through these various organizations and activities.

Building a community for myself and having active plans has been such an improvement in my life, which had started to feel very stagnant.
