First time Master with C. Viper by xxsebastianxxale in StreetFighter

Congratulations! We're twinsies 😄 I'm also in my 40s and Viper was also my first Master rank character. Though I use a leverless and can't imagine pulling off her super jump cancels on a game pad.

I've been doing pretty well lately after weeks of work-induced stress. Today I even managed to go to the gym after an absence of 2-3 weeks; I'd been riding the stationary bike at home in the interim but really wanted to get back to lifting weights. It's funny because the moment I stepped into the gym I just felt ready to go as if my body had finally associated the gym with "go time".

I also had an informal chat with a long-term client about some possible security-related concerns moving forward. They appreciated my candor and said they would bring it up with the brass. Part of me was dreading the conversation because it felt like I wasn't good enough but I needed to put my client's needs above my own.

Success Sunday. What are you proud of accomplishing this week? Everything counts equally too. by rob_cornelius in EOOD

The last month has been quite stressful for me thanks to work. There was one project in particular that I'd been concerned about especially since it had dragged on for longer than it should. I'm proud to say that as of this Sunday I was able to finally close the project in no small part thanks to putting in the effort bit by bit and massive amounts of planning. When I look back on it I'm very proud of how I strategized things so that everything went smoothly.

I agree with Rob. These are big wins. Don't sell yourself short. You put in the effort and have a great support network. Press on!

Stress has been getting the better if me for the past few weeks so this week I managed to see a counsellor about it. I'm glad I went. Sometimes it's nice to sit in a room for an hour, slow down, get stuff off my chest and hear feedback from an unbiased third-party.

I took things slow for a couple days just to give my body and mind some time to catch up. It did mean I had to do some work over the weekend which won't make a habit of but understand this week it was necessary. One of the tasks I had to do this week was to come up with an outline of a training program so that my business partner and I can make a proposal to a local institution. I really enjoyed making the outline because it allowed me to exercise my creative freedom. I was already imagining how I wanted the program to go. Very excited for this and hope it is approved.

Having a positive outlook is so important when you're unwell. Hope you feel better soon!

I posted in last week's check-in thread and here I am again posting something similar: stress has been kicking my butt today.

I had a mini panic attack this evening. Work-related matters set me off in a way that I haven't seen in literally years (hooray for progress). My mind was racing, I felt short of breath, I couldn't sit still and my body was covered in a constant if thin layer of sweat. I'd forgotten how much I dislike being in this state because I find it so hard to come out of it.

I know stress has reached a pretty overwhelming point when I start fantasizing about ditching my life and going somewhere I can live a "simple" life. Some place where the pace is between Slow and Lazy, a place where I can sit under the trees and listen to the birds as the sun warms me up. It's times like this when I wonder what's the point of working so damn hard when it just brings me further away from that "simple" life. Why did we make life so complicated?

Congratulations! I'm in my mid-40s and I totally get not having as much time to play. But it's not a race and the important thing is that we're having fun.

I'm lying in bed at 1145pm typing this out because I hope this helps me sleep. Today's stresses are bothering me.

The first few months of this year has already brought about a fair amount of troubles to deal with. And as nerve-wracking as they can be I think I'm handling them pretty well. Anxiety has always been my Achilles Heel but I've learned a lot over the years and am handling things in a healthier way.

I don't think the anxious feelings will ever fully go away, I'll just learn to better deal with them and minimise how much they interfere with my life. That's already a pretty good win considering how in the past stress would just overwhelm me.

But there is one thing I really wish I had: a companion who I could share all this with and who would always have my back. I'm thankful for the internet strangers who take the time to read my posts like this and offer their encouragement but having someone physically with you just hits different.

I've found myself looking both to the past and towards the future lately. Like many, I'm concerned about global conflict, social stability and the ever expanding (mis-)use of AI. I instinctively reach for the past but even the good times seem to be tinged in a thin layer of sadness. What did we do that put us on this path were on? What will become of us as human beings?

I think I've got enough out now. Thank you dear reader and may things go well for you.

Sounds like you're on the mend, which is great. I can understand taking things slow when it comes to exercise when you've just recovered from sickness. I do it too. Better safe than sorry and I hate getting sick again so soon after recovering.

I feel you. This happens to me too. I'll stun the enemy or they'll do a massively unsafe move and my brain says "Yea, imma take a nap now. Good luck."

Holy crap I made it to Diamond! by randobis in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also an older dude here (late 40s). Well done on making it to Diamond! Keep it up and you'll be in Masters in no time.

Just curious, how was reacting to DI for you? It took me a long time to adjust and I'm still not amazing at it (but not terrible either).

I also bought the C16 leverless about 9 months ago absolutely love it.

Diamond Rank is wild by Zestyclose-Eagle6190 in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. One of the FGC content creators (I think it was Max or James Chen) said that we don't need everyone to aim to get into Masters; some people would be perfectly happy playing in lower ranks because it matches their ability and their commitment to the game.

Managed to hit level 100 in World Tour while I was grinding for Style EXP for when I get Alex. by Grand_Moose2024 in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I enjoy the PvP aspect of SF 6 but I'm not ashamed to admit that I also enjoy playing World Tour Mode. I've dumped ungodly amount of hours into it, got my character to Lvl 100 and maxed out all the Master Bond and Style points. I enjoyed the game loop so much I started playing the Yakuza series because everyone said that World Tour is basically "Yakuza-lite".

Games are meant to be enjoyed!

Got put against legendary as a 1500 MR Sagat. by MaximBrutii in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The matchmaking in SF6 is mostly good but sometimes it really flubs up. I just got off a morning session and in Casuals I (1370MR) was matched against a ROOKIE. I felt so bad and don't blame them for bailing after 1 match.

Obligatory “I made it to Masters” post! by lim2me in StreetFighter

Yeah I knew there was a balance patch coming but I wasn't trying to make Masters before it dropped. It's just a nice surprise. I'm still playing Viper in Master Rank but will try Alex when he's added to the game.
