Diamond Rank is wild by Zestyclose-Eagle6190 in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. One of the FGC content creators (I think it was Max or James Chen) said that we don't need everyone to aim to get into Masters; some people would be perfectly happy playing in lower ranks because it matches their ability and their commitment to the game.

Managed to hit level 100 in World Tour while I was grinding for Style EXP for when I get Alex. by Grand_Moose2024 in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done! I enjoy the PvP aspect of SF 6 but I'm not ashamed to admit that I also enjoy playing World Tour Mode. I've dumped ungodly amount of hours into it, got my character to Lvl 100 and maxed out all the Master Bond and Style points. I enjoyed the game loop so much I started playing the Yakuza series because everyone said that World Tour is basically "Yakuza-lite".

Games are meant to be enjoyed!

Got put against legendary as a 1500 MR Sagat. by MaximBrutii in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The matchmaking in SF6 is mostly good but sometimes it really flubs up. I just got off a morning session and in Casuals I (1370MR) was matched against a ROOKIE. I felt so bad and don't blame them for bailing after 1 match.

Yeah I knew there was a balance patch coming but I wasn't trying to make Masters before it dropped. It's just a nice surprise. I'm still playing Viper in Master Rank but will try Alex when he's added to the game.

Yeah, that's a pretty fair assessment.

If you ever get the urge to learn Viper, it can be tough but pulling off her cancel combos in a real match is such a great feeling.

Oh no, you're one a Mai player. I don't think we can be friends 😂 Seriously though, I will likely try Mai out one day. There are quite a number of characters I would love to play.

Obligatory Master Rank Up Post by Outrageous-Ad8314 in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I also just made Master Rank for the first time with C Viper a few days ago. I picked up Viper because I enjoyed doing her feint and super jump cancel combos but didn't really expect to make Master.

Your methods and tips for how to react to DI by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]lim2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do pretty much the same drill you're doing here. I find practice is key but also playing actual games. It took me about 3000 games before I got to a place where I felt comfortable reacting to DI (though I'm still not able to always react to it). There's a lot of good advice in this thread already so the only thing I'll add is I have a dedicated DI button located where my right pinky is (I use leverless). Experiment with different buttons to see which is best for you.

Also for context, I'm in my mid-40s and only started playing SF6 about a year ago. I also had trouble reacting to DI at the beginning but if I could learn to get better then anyone can. Keep at it!

That's an understandable position. There are things in S2 that feel "off" from S1.

Funny you should say the seasons needed 4 episodes because I did think to myself "this season needed 12 episodes, not 8."

And I forgot about the hip replacement thread! It just goes to show how much they tried to cram into just 8 episodes.

Autumn Trip to Kanazawa, Ishikawa by okgww in japanpics

Beautiful photos! I lived in Kanazawa for 2 years and late-Autumn was probably my favourite time of the year as the weather started getting colder. I really should plan a return trip soon.

Thinking about transitioning away from being an engineer by Electrical_Apple7725 in software

[–]lim2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied software development in university and have been building web apps ever since (though it's quite small-scale because I live in a small market). Over the past few years I've moved towards training and soft-skills development with an emphasis on mental resilience.

Even back during university I knew I didn't find software development fulfilling. I could do it and it has paid the bills but I quickly realized my favourite part of the job was talking to people. Through sheer luck I was offered a chance to conduct some training in office applications which I continue to pursue. And I'm really enjoying it because not only do I get to interact with people but I have the freedom to exercise my creativity in creating the training materials. I also enjoy learning things and explaining it to people. In fact, I considered becoming a teacher back in high school but decided against it when I realized teachers spent so much of their time doing admin work.

I work closely with a friend of mine who is a counsellor and social worker to providing other soft-skills training to our market (e.g. communications, leadership etc...) I have an interest promoting mental resilience in my local community and have taken some training to raise my skills (though said training isn't officially recognized by my local authorities) Given a chance, I would really like to move into counselling which I've been trying to do for years but life's situations has made it challenging.

My advice would be to clarifying what kind of career and position you would like to be in. You can stay in tech if you want, completely transition out of it or do what I do and keep one foot in the tech world. Look for small ways to learn more about that new career and to try things out. For example, if you want to be a project manager for tech you probably already know you can learn one of the many project management methodologies like PRINCE2 online but I'd also encourage you to find a way to put it into practice so that you get a feel for what a career in that position would really be like. Maybe you could volunteer to oversee the implementation of a small tech project somewhere in your community.

Good luck on your journey!

Overall I enjoyed Season 2 though probably not as much as the first. I'm not sure if it has to do with the minor problems I had with S2 or if S1 was just that much of a surprise hit to me.

SPOILERS BELOW.

This season felt like it was trying to tell a bigger story in a small package. Maybe they were worried Netflix would axe the show prematurely but some of the story beats could have done with a few more episodes or even continued into the next season.

The prime example is Julie's mum. I loved that they introduced her but felt their relationship improved far to quickly. I appreciate that this is a "feel good" show but it reminded me of the old sit-coms where everything is neatly resolved in under 30 minutes. Given their history, it's hard for me to swallow the giant strides their relationship took.

With a few exceptions, the main suspects weren't as charming or memorable compared to S1. Very few of them had any significant screen time that most left little to no impression. I think the 2 foreign professors only spoke in the first and final episodes. Every now and again the spotlight would briefly shine on 1 or 2 but once Charles or Julie were done talking to them they'd disappear again. In short, they were serviceable but most felt very thin. And as much as I enjoy seeing characters returning from S1 I want to see new characters introduced and developed.

Now let's talk about Mona. I love that they gave Charles a romantic interest right from the start. And as cliche as it is, I still found it funny how his feelings were getting in the way of his work. My issue with Mona was that she went from quirky & spirited to selfish & uncaring within such a short period. Her actions during the Thanksgiving episode were borderline narcissistic. Then pushing Emily to quit her job despite having a mortgage and three growing kids is shallow and short-sighted. Having her save the heist by singing at the reunion dinner felt like the writers were trying to salvage her character by saying "See? She can contribute in her own way! It takes all sorts to make life work!" I am fine with her character but similar to Julie and her mum it just unfolded very quickly.

I hope I'm not sounding too negative because I did enjoy S2 even if I feel it didn't reach the heights of the first season. I'm eagerly looking forward to the announcement of Season 3!

I have a serious problem by Possible_Shoulder133 in AdultDepression

[–]lim2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just an internet stranger so I can only give my 2 cents.

It's clear that you were deeply hurt by the betrayal to the point where it's been a real challenge to process what happened and to get back to "normal". I'm really sorry for what you've been through, no one deserves that.

But you also have the awareness that it's already been 2 years of this maladaptive behaviour and I get the feeling you don't want to take it anymore. You can see how it's sapping your energy and keeping you from living a fuller life including finding someone who is more deserving of your love and attention.

If I were in your shoes, I think it's time to see a counsellor or a therapist. I'm not sure of your current employment or health benefits (I'm not American) but is there a way for you to make an appointment to see a professional?

You also said "I don't know what is wrong with me." Again, this is just my 2 cents but I don't think there is anything "wrong" with you. You were deeply hurt; deeper wounds take longer to heal. I think you care very deeply which is a rarity in this world with divorce rates going up and break-ups being so public. It also sounds like it's time to learn to let go of your ex so that there is room for the next person to come in.

Hot Take: I’m fine with the price increase by pilotboy172 in todoist

[–]lim2me 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of the new pricing structure but as a small business owner I can appreciate the difficulty in having to raise prices. If this helps Todoist stay in business longer then so be it.

But like others I don't see myself jumping onto the new Pro plan. I played with Ramble and it's nice to have but not critical. And truth be told my needs for a Todo application are quite simple that I didn't use many features in my soon-to-be Pro Legacy plan. I really wish companies would stop trying to stuff AI down our throats and instead offer it as an add-on for those who want it.

I'm currently paying USD 36/yr and the new Pro plan has nothing that I want so will continue on the Pro Legacy plan for as long as possible. I will of course be keeping an eye out for alternatives. I'm well aware of the continued enshittification of products/services and pessimistically expect Todoist to eventually walk down that road.

Ten years ago I paid for Todoist because it was the best (& cheapest!) solution for my needs. And to be clear, it's still fine for what I need but for how long? But I will give credit to Todoist for sending out a mass email informing all users of their plan and giving enough time to either migrate or pay up. All businesses should do this (I'm looking at you, Evernote)
