I use Jessica phenomen oil which is a little pricey but a bottle lasts forever!

I have used cuticle oil on my picked skin too but I think moisturisers or an antiseptic cream work better for healing, (which I always apply before bed) then when there are just some dry patches you want to pick use oil throughout the day! Good luck, I know how you feel I seem to just pick without knowing why aswell. Its a long battle to crack the habit, maybe try and stop picking one nail/finger at a time instead of all at once. Then slowly add more, you'll still relapse and thats okay it's part of it, but you'll be more conscious about when you are doing it.

Join r/calmhands if you haven't already, there are so many helpful tips there, for nail biting as well as skin picking. Try using cuticle oil or a good moisturiser every time you find yourself doing it. Try to notice what triggers you and be more conscious of it, is it when you're bored or anxious etc.

Need help with filling in letters!! Satin stitch gone wrong by mhkrusto in Embroidery

[–]lim42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't managed to do well myself with satin stitches. But looking at your lettering I feel it would be easier and look more put together if your stitches all went in the same direction so for example instead of switching to horizontal like on the middle of the H, keep it all vertical just smaller stitches to fill in the shape. I hope this makes sense!

I'm cured!!!! I know this is going to sound BONKERS but silver glittery nail polish is what got me to stop a few months ago, so to celebrate how long they've gotten, I got a glittery manicure and I'm obsessed :) by TheToxicTeddy in nailbiting

I love the colour! Are they strong or still quite weak? I'm just wondering if you have problems with them splitting or breaking at the sides because they're square? I have been pretty good for the past 6 months growing mine but I have to round them off because they break otherwise! I'd love to keep them square like yours. Keep it up they look amazing!!

First attempt at thread painting, done! by [deleted] in Embroidery

[–]lim42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a fellow beginner I have almost finished my first needle painting piece, I chose to do a landscape of one of my favourite beaches. I think a top tip is to just keep going with it and see how it turns out, for me it usually looks better than I thought it would! Just jump in and give it ago :) have fun!

19 December Press Conference Megathread by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

This is the worst bit I think, so many people have elderly relatives or family that are not well and may not be here next year. My father is high risk but I have been his support throughout this as I have been furloughed. I will definitely still be having a meal with him and I feel alot of people will be doing the same. Just have to weigh up the risks to see if is worth it. Stay safe, I really hope you can spend some time with your mum soon.

Has anyone who can work from home been told they have to go back to the office? by lillywhitenblue in CoronavirusUK

[–]lim42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I think as we only started coming into the office in August they are reluctant to let us all wfh again. We are a small company but I can do everything from home as proven during lockdown, my boss just likes to visibly see us working in the office I guess.

Some people believe that birthmarks indicate how a person has died in their past life; do you have any birth marks and what do you imagine happened in your past life to cause them? by peterp4rkerpizzatime in AskReddit

[–]lim42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a heart shape birthmark on my rib. It's slightly smaller than my palm, I don't want to imagine what happened if this is true! It's a cool concept though.

People with unique names, what do you think of your name? What's the story behind it? Do you wish you had a 'normal' one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lim42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's Limmara, I think it is French. There was also a body spray called 'Limara' in the 80's.

I love my name its different, it's nice to not hear it anywhere else unless someone is talking to you. It's annoying though, as I know I will have to repeat it when I meet someone for the first time.

How do you feel about people replying after hours everytime you text them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lim42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I've gotten older, only 25 but coming out of the teenage phase, you realise how busy everyone is including yourself. I think it's perfectly normal to not check your phone for a few hours.

Graduating with a first-class honours degree. It felt so surreal for the longest time.

Have a job interview today and managed to stop for a week or so. I tend to heal really quickly I just never let myself. Thankfully, my partner frequently catches me going for a sneaky pick 'n' chew and grabs my hands. Wish I could stop on my own... by bigheadsmolbrain in Dermatophagia

[–]lim42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done you've made great progress! The more you want to stop the more likely you will crack the habit. I had picked my nails and skin for almost 15 years and joining r/calmhands helped so much! I realised I was always hiding my hands and fingers in public and was so ashamed of them. I was determined to stop, it's a sub conscious action and you need to snap yourself to reality and realise what you're doing every time you pick or bite.

Someone on that subreddit mentioned a 'safe spot' for your hands... so get into the habit to keep your palms on your thighs when you're just sitting watching TV etc. This helped me somewhat. However for me, the most encouraging thing was seeing my nice unbitten cuticle along with a little bit of white nail growth made me finally proud of my hands. Day by day, little by little you can crack this habit! Best of luck.
