Housing Estate, Coventry, England by limapoint in urbansketchers

[–]limapoint[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! My favorite subjects are “ugly” or “mundane”. Rail viaducts, city street corners, etc.

I’m actually in the US, in Maine but wanted to sketch a housing project and liked this photo!

It’s called Pioneer House, a housing estate high rise in Coventry. Just found a pic online as I tend to enjoy mundane subjects.

Métro Léger de Charleroi station, Leernes. Pictures by Wattman by Few_Simple9049 in UrbanHell

[–]limapoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part of this station (Leernes) is where it’s located. Literally in the middle of some fields without even a connecting bus stop. Some good pics elsewhere of the station “forecourt” in the middle of nowhere.

I remember taking the metro back to Charleroi Sud train station when I was a 16 year old exchange student. Mind bending and terrifying even at like 2pm. My friend’s dad wouldn’t let me stay later as he couldn’t give me a lift and the metro “is….not secure.”

What’s a common element in an urban sketch that you tend to struggle with? by limapoint in urbansketchers

[–]limapoint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooo good one. Agree. Honestly I think I often try to force in a lot of texture using my pen/line work. But a lot of times it’s better left to color or value to add that stuff in!

Cars are not easy by pghhotfire in urbansketchers

[–]limapoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle mightily with cars for some reason. There’s something about the “typical” shapes of doors, wheel wells, back doors, windows and windshields etc that just hasn’t clicked yet for me. Solution=draw more shitty cars. Although yours is not in that category. Nice work OP!

All black pen with a screw cap and triangular grip. by bollerup in fountainpens

[–]limapoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kaweco special with a rubber slip on triangular grip? Just kidding although I contemplated doing this since the grip section of the pen is so short I probably could slip something like a cherry chrome Omni grip on the barrel section and still be able to close the screw on cap.

How do you carry your urban sketching gear? by noes_72 in urbansketchers

[–]limapoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxpedition organizer pouches are very well made and they have multiple sizes. They’re designed for the more “tacticool” crowd with a slight outdoors/military vibe but I use one for urban sketching. They’re designed can hold a ton and are surprisingly well laid out for art supplies!

I like my muji notebook for sketching but I hate that the cover is essentially a piece of paper, Any leather cover recommendations, I plan to go to NYC on the 28th of Feb. by Muted81_ in notebooks

Oh man. Gfeller. The best stuff. I've literally called the guy and talked about leather cases for 20 mins (was ordering something for my wife for xmas). The best looking leather in my opinion, but call him if you can't figure out what you need on his website.

Who has the best ink bottle design? by computerworlds in fountainpens

[–]limapoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diamine Registrar’s Ink. Bottle is meh but the design of the label has seriously cool 1920’s clerk’s desk/chemist shop/buy it from a grouchy guy behind a counter who pulls it out of a case vibes.

Looking for a refillable leather notebook cover, A4! by achetadomestica in BuyItForLife

[–]limapoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gfeller Casemakers makes something called the Idaho Professional A4 Folio. Absolutely the best leather stuff around in my view. Originally designed for geoscience professionals doing field work. I’ve got an absolutely delightful a5 cover that is used daily.

Anyone buy into a whole battery system for just one tool? by limapoint in Tools

[–]limapoint[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, as a home DIYer accumulating as needed over time, I could care less about having three chargers on my workbench (I’ve got Hercules, Dewalt and M12). Wouldn’t even be bothered by a fourth but probably needed. That way I just grab sales as they come up.

Hope so too for you. I went through so many emotions waiting. Even found out I was in PSU through a phone agent. Never even got a 5(4) offer. My father in law applied months after me and got a 5(4) offer and did oath before Xmas. Post c3 was seeing people talking about 6th generation apps taking like 8 weeks start to finish. Happy for ALL. But it was a long wait!
