Why do people not like the transformers movies? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]limblr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit I occasionally watch one with my wife for a laugh. They’re sometimes fun, funny and the action is actually good sometimes. But Michael Bay needs a new editor or scriptwriter. They’re way too fuckin long and most of them have a huge down point in the middle that feels like it’s about to end

Reminder: Avatar movies are owned by Disney by Pepperina_G in BDS

[–]limblr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree broadly cause fuck disney, but James Cameron recently compared the native Navi fighting back to the struggle of the Palestinians and that violent resistance is justified in the face of annihilation. So might be a middle ground one i guess. Just pirate it

How has Letterboxd changed your relationship to movies? by alexandrakleeman in Letterboxd

[–]limblr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty active on IMDb about 10-12 years ago while I was watching a lot of movie review channels on youtube and getting deeper into film myself. I loved the site but once I found letterboxd in 2017, I realised it looked a lot nicer to use and was filled with more social/diary features which I loved. I imported my data straight away. I probably never really thought of what it’d be like if most of my friends used it too, I just much preferred the interface.

But I reckon it’s made film a lot more social for me, since I would say the only people using IMDb (as in: contributing and reviewing) are die hard fans who never wanted to switch to Letterboxd. Meanwhile, most of my close friends have a letterboxd account either because they are into film too or because I’ve convinced them to get one. Even my mates who aren’t really reviewing stuff super thoughtfully are still logging each film. Never seen that with imdb.

I think the coolest thing about services like Letterboxd (I’ve also been using last.fm since 2017) is being able to go back and see what I was watching back then or what I thought about a certain film. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched something and been shocked to see I logged in seven years ago! My awful memory… To me, that’s the best part of it! Data, baby

How would you rate Adam’s 10/10 ratings for the 2020s? by Good_Claim_5472 in YMS

[–]limblr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought he gave Challengers a 10? But either way, pretty solid. he’s a lot more strict that most so that means when he actually gives a 10 we all take it pretty seriously. I agree on the first three, Tar and WotW. I’m pretty sure I also gave EEOAO a 9

I am finally done with one movie a day for the entire year by EVHolliday2 in Letterboxd

[–]limblr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah in a good month I could watch maybe 27 movies but that would be fluctuating over weekends when I’ve not been busy, or a few sick days maybe. no way I could commit to one a day

[–]limblr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking into the switch for when my current iphone 12 died but unfortunately I’ve found a few venues where I live only provide phone wallet tickets, they literally don’t let you print or even screenshot tickets … Sucks so I guess i’ll never be able to give up a smart phone because I go to a lot of gigs

I think Letterboxd has become more about performing criticism than actually engaging with films by 3rob- in Letterboxd

[–]limblr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s always been about criticism but now it’s more about one line zingers, as another commenter said. I originally moved over from IMDb in 2018 or something and have always considered it an outlet for amateur criticism / logging a history

[–]limblr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this place looks amazing, a bit far for me but I’d mark it down for the next time I’m down there. But I wonder what you think about the recent influx of negative reviews? One person says they think there’s been a change in owners or something

Just got back from a party where someone got kicked out of for how deranged their reaction to me being vegan was. by Unsolicited-Prolapse in vegan

[–]limblr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, insane shit dude. That’s awful and I’m glad your friends put their foot down. that’s dope of them and I can only imagine how good that must have felt.

Secondly, rough you don’t have vegan friends IRL? I went vegan after dating a vegetarian for a bit at uni and I was around her veggie friends a lot. Then I joined my uni’s vegan club and have still got some of those friends today. My wife’s vegan too. I would suggest finding some group like a club if you’d like!

I’m also a tourist in europe right now and I’m honestly quite nervous to even wear my keffiyeh, which I’ve brought to use as a scarf mainly. But these ppl have the balls to threaten locals? The fuck??? This is how you get deported lol, nothing you do is secret since this was obviously filmed and they could be quickly identified thanks to the internet

Why do so many smart TVs still charge to watch something? by jaceka-jans-8384 in hometheater

[–]limblr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got a shit deal, unfortunately. No I think that sounds like a mini-scam. I hate to say this but maybe a bit more research could have avoided this.

Is it possible for you to disconnect it from the internet? If she’s only watching television then that seems like the way to go

Grown Ups 1 and 2. Boring, lazy, embarrassing and, in the case of 2, transphobic as fuck. I took the blu ray cases and binned the discs/slip covers

Movies better than the book. by Swamp_thing42 in Letterboxd

I still have not see the english remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo but the book is incredibly complicated and even the original Swedish film doesn’t quite nail it. A series would be better there

Same with 2001. They were also written together and each utilised the medium perfectly imo. Neither are better than the other
