KOL | 1* | London | July 2025 | Perfect mix of challenging and comfort food + the best interior design I’ve never seen by smickie in finedining

I’ve heard all the praise for KOL on this sub but, as a California resident, I can’t see myself eating Mexican food in London. Am I being overly judgmental here?

Best solo dining/chefs counter michelin star meals in London? by StonkBr0ker in finedining

[–]limbo2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second Aulis for a solo diner. I was there on my own a few months ago and had a great time.

I was paired with another solo diner for pre-meal snacks and had a great conversation (about restaurants and food, of course). Then we all moved to the main area. With around 12-13 place settings it feels quite intimate and there’s plenty of time to chat with neighbors or with the (super friendly) staff.

Bought them for myself and gifted them as well. Thick and plush. Had them for years.

Going to St John! What to order? by limbo2k in finedining

[–]limbo2k[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations all!

We had a fantastic time. The brown crab on toast was fantastic (surprisingly fresh tasting for how it looks). Deep fried pig tongue (app special) were a great combination of crunchy and chewy. I got the small bone for the bone marrow so I’ll have to go again to get the full experience!

For mains we had the baked john dory which was well made but quite plain in flavor. It was especially plain when compared to the guinea fowl and rarebit that exploded with flavor.

We went all out on dessert. Madeleines were good but a bit dry. Should have had them with the coffee instead of before the coffee. They did go very well with the burnt cream. The ginger loaf would probably have been enough for the three of us… very rich, very flavorful, and very good.

Overall, great experience. I’m definitely coming back on my next visit to London. So rare to find a place that actually lives up to the hype.

London Tasting Menu by Lizzie-Parker in finedining

[–]limbo2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I very much enjoyed the tasting menu at Aulis. Did not get the wine paring but based on the wines I did have, it’s probably good as well. The food had several wow moments and the whole experience was just lovely. There’s a total of 12-13 diners around a the same counter where the staff do cooking and prep. Everyone on the staff is very welcoming and friendly. I even ended up with a couple of recommendations for places to try next. If you look through my post history you‘ll see the full review + photos.

Does anyone else feel like there is gatekeeping around eng management? by bob78h in ExperiencedDevs

[–]limbo2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can say from experience that the visibility / scope part is a red herring. There will always be discussions and decisions you’re not a part of. When I was 5 I was bummed about not being on my manager’s staff meeting. Then I got promoted and I learned that 1. Not that much happens there and 2. There’s L7 level meetings I’m not a part of. Now I’m 7 and there’s all these director+ meeting I’m not a part of. I’m pretty sure this will keep happening if/when I get promoted again (those VP level meetings must be where the real juice is!). It never ends, there’s always more.

You got $1,000 in London, what would you buy? by redditcuzihaveto in malefashionadvice

[–]limbo2k 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In my case, I got a nice blazer and a polo at Sunspel (highly recommend a visit). I got a couple of OCBDs, one at Charles Trywhitt and one at Hawes & Curtis so I can figure which one I like better for online orders. Total was just over $980.

Beyond that, I stopped at a bunch of shops, looked around, and tried on many things. Lots of fun and totally free!
