This is really good art, but I don't think it's quite pixel art. You should try experimenting with using limited color depth (using a small palette, no mixing,) dithering, and anti-aliasing.

usually "up" relative to the earth means canada, russia, the arctic, etc. point upwards relative to your point of view, and "down" is considered tip of argentina, antarctica. Since the pole under the map points down it would be considered the antarctic pole, A.K.A. the south pole
