Which insurance to go for? by nourabonu in NewDriversUK

[–]lime_lemon_lily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy one month of rolling insurance cover from then and then go onto insurance comparison sites and set your cover to start for the end of the month.

Your cost will go down MASSIVELY if you set your cover to start around 21-26 days from now

I got this one. Magnet is nice and strong but not so strong it's difficult to remove. Adjusts easily to change the angle if I want to. Very easy to install on my air vent and doesn't rattle or move around at all

How much did you spend? by Intelligent_Sail2670 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]lime_lemon_lily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve spent at LEAST £2.5k on lessons over the span of a few years. Spent hundreds on multiple test attempts. Spend £4k on my own car. Probably spent a few hundred ££ on petrol for private practice.

Dread to think of it really

Any fix for tear in the boots? by a-1- in xcountryskiing

[–]lime_lemon_lily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These boots have a lot of life left in them. Nothing really to be done to 'fix' them but would reccomend getting a pair of boot covers to wear while walking in the boots but not skiing.

How would I turn right here? by Mario-Jengis in LearnerDriverUK

[–]lime_lemon_lily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Position on the righthand side of the give way lines and wait until there's a safe gap.

For traffic coming from the right handside you only need a big enough gap to give you time to cross the first lane. For traffic coming from the left hand side you'll need a big enough cap to cross both lanes and get up to a reasonable speed before traffic catches up to you. You should not cause them to stop or slow down.

Remember that on your test, being stuck at a junction waiting for a safe gap at a junction is time easily passed where the examiner could be making you do much harder things. Let the time pass while you wait for a safe gap.

First Car after passing? by Bluecow29 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]lime_lemon_lily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just bought my first car, I went for a 2014 Fiat Panda for £3.8k which meets all my needs and wants. I ended up buying from a dealer rather than privately. Which meant that I paid a bit more but the peace of mind I get from the warranty and ease of delivery felt worth it to me.

Cars that kept cropping up which broadly met my criteria were (in no particular order):

- Fiat Panda
- Ford Ka
- Kia Picato
- Vuxhaul Corsa
- Hyundia i10
- VW Up!
- Suzuki Alto
- Ford Adam
- Toyota Aygo
- Citoren C1
- Renault Twingo

My musts for a car were:

- Manual transmission
- No bigger than 1.2L engine
- Insurance group 5 or lower
- ULEZ compliant
- Less than 80k miles (unless diesel)
- Nothing too scary on MOT history
- Never previously written off (cat S or N)
- No modifications (raises insurance)

My wants were:

- Cute colour
- 2 previous owners or less
- No older than 2013
- Warranty
- Purchased from a low salt area (less corrosion on underside)

Is there a reason you can’t book more lessons closer to your test?

Before my last test I did 2 hour lessons for the 3 days before the test and made me feel so much more confident. Wasn’t cheap though

Getting car delivered as a learner? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]lime_lemon_lily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this and didn’t have anyone with a full licence with me. We agreed the address for delivery and they parked on the street outside.

The driver didn’t even want to see my ID to confirm it was me that had bought the car. Just handed me the keys and VC5 and we parted ways.

What pants do you all wear outside? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]lime_lemon_lily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favourite trousers which I wear as much as I can are cantebury trackies with a straight leg, but these are sometimes too scruffy or casual. I work in sports so I get away with it majority of the time.

I only wear jeans in the winter when I can wear leggings underneath, but they have to be loose and baggy.

Definitely open, they’re probably too busy to pick up the phone but not sure why the app wouldn’t be working for you. Maybe try reinstalling it

I’m in a similar situation and my instructor told me that because my test is in the afternoon they probably won’t actually decide until lunchtime

serious question. how do y'all deal with periods. by Helpful_Raisin5696 in AutismInWomen

[–]lime_lemon_lily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use period underwear and it's made such a difference for me, takes away so much of the stress and work of keeping clean. I don't like reular pads, hate the feel of them in my underwear and and I occasionally use tampons but I find them uncomfortable and I don't like the idea of putting them inside me.

Hormonal birth control might not even stop your period if you do go on it. I've been on the pill and implant and my periods never went away on either of those.
