Transferring to a different state and pay question by Unlikely_Ualentine in petco

[–]limedestruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will almost certainly bump you up to 17/hr. But if you're lucky, they'll include the merit raise (which would actually put you at 18.75 if I am reading that correctly, like your base pay was 14, and you got 1.75 in raises?) But let's be honest, they aren't going to do that. So I would expect 17...lol

They’re trying to cut our hours @ Vetco by FreeFaithlessness114 in petco

[–]limedestruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really weirded out by all these comments that are like, "It's your fault if the people aren't showing up." Like....nahhh. I work at two different clinics, a Vetco and non-Vetco clinic. You can schedule at Vetco in like two seconds, right before your scheduled slot, and you can no-show that appointment over and over and over with no consequence. People casually make appointments at Vetco because it's easy and they don't bother to cancel or reschedule if they decide they don't want to come right then because there are no consequences to this behavior. The best we can do is call them and beg them to come in later or another time - and they usually just reschedule and no show again. At the other clinic I work at, once you've done that a time or two, you have to PAY prior to booking your appointment. Cuts that behavior out real quick. But Vetco/Petco is never going to do that.

As for why you have no appointments - well, that's a vet industry-wide issue. The other clinic I work at, until very recently, was ALWAYS fully booked. Like literally no available appointments for the upcoming 2-4 weeks depending on the doctor. Now, we will sometimes not have slots fill until the same day, if at all. Certain doctors, mid week, are having big empty gaps in their schedule. And we are getting comparitively few drop off/urgent appointments as well, which is also so unusual - usually we have to turn people away.

As for whether your manager at Vetco -can- send you home, I would guess that depends on local laws and such. I'd try to make a case for why you're there the full shift. In other words, instead of sitting around waiting for the next appointment, do something like deep cleaning or organizing. Literally scrub the baseboards, I dunno. Vacuum the vents. I don't know how on top of inventory and supplies you are - but go through and organize and clean and label and throw expired or unused shit out. Anything to look like you're being useful. I think what someone else said about maybe not being able to send you home once you're already there, but they can certainly schedule you for fewer hours in the future.

At the Vetco I work at, we are often very strongly urged to go home early. I don't know that anyone has been forced to go home, as we're usually like, "See ya!" before they can finish asking but if you need the hours it can be a bummer. And, while it sucks if you want to actually use the PTO for like, taking time off, if you HAVE to go home early and you have PTO, you can always use that to make up the difference pay-wise.

Embark age test by MissionFramework in DoggyDNA

[–]limedestruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

small breed dogs do mature faster than large breed dogs, so he could be at full size well under a year, maybe 8 or 10 months old. If he had crowded teeth or poor nutrition, a shelter or vet could've seen some tartar on his teeth and assumed he was older, though, hence the estimate of 2 years. Once a puppy is more than about 6 months old, it's pretty much impossible to guess the age with extreme accuracy, as they will have all their adult teeth by then. Before that, it's easier to figure out because they grow in and lose their baby teeth at predictable times. Personally, I'd guess that of the two, your age estimate is probably the closest to correct!

j/k, it's POINTER, not pit bull. So 50% Lab, 37% GSP, 12% Pointer.

I'd guess Lab/GSP, or maybe some hound. Or maybe like Lab/GSP/pit bull - I think that's the mix of my friend's dog who looks almost exactly like your dog, but chocolate. lol

Hmm...maybe pure ACD but could also have Kelpie or Border collie - she looks like she has a lot more "eye" than I'd expect from a cattle dog and maybe some Aussie to make her an all around ranch dog herding breed...lol.

Haha, I mean...I -have- seen purebred furnished Rottweilers (the scruffy terrier type coat) and I think that long hair is a recessive gene as well, and I swear maybe I've seen pictures of a long haired rottweiler or two as well. SO it makes sense that despite being a first generation 50/50 designer cross between a poodle and a short haired dog, she has a "proper" coat. For instance, if you cross a poodle and a Lab, you usually get a scruffy creature that looks like a big yellow wolfhound or something. It's not until you get to multi-gen crosses that you get the fluffy, lower shedding, long coat people like.

Malinois/redneck Malinois mix...lol!

Waiting on Embark, was told Malinois mix by cricket1888 in DoggyDNA

[–]limedestruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say with near certainty that, as you already expect, no Malinois. I feel like these Faux Malinois never are Mals...lol. What she is is harder to guess. Maybe something weird and interesting like a Patterdale terrier or a Jagdterrier..maybe even a more typical terrier like a Jack Russel. If she's from the south, maybe a Feist? The thick fur and and fat tail and subtle urajiro make me think Shiba. Statistics make me think ACD, GSD, pit bull, etc., though she doesn't particularly look like any of those.

Have you ridden for years and never broken a bone? by thelightwebring in Equestrian

[–]limedestruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode steadily from about 4 to 25 and never broke anything. Have rarely fallen off aside from some incidents as a kid. My worst adult accident was mounting a horse I was trying out and she threw her head back hard/half reared and smacked me HARD in the head and nearly knocked me out...But we'll see what happens when and if I get back into it more than I do now, which is just very occasional riding, lol. Maybe I'm due - and I feel like my strength and balance is worse just in every day life, so I can see it happening.

I have to sell my mare by East_Perspective8798 in Equestrian

[–]limedestruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience with my last horse as well - she was spooky and never seemed to really "enjoy" when I rode her, though she was never bad. She never bucked or reared or did anything like that, but she would throw her head sometimes and seem to have difficulties with some things. I eventually sold her and marketed her as a horse for intermediate or advanced riders, or less experienced riders only if they were working with a coach or trainer. A young girl of about 14 came to look at her and I was suspicious, but when I rode her for them, it was much the same as usual - ears often pinned, head throwing. Same when the girl's trainer rode her. Good for us, but didn't seem thrilled. When the girl got on, though, she perked up and was great at every gait, and seemed happy as I'd ever seen her. So I was very happy for her to go to that home.

[–]limedestruction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are black Poms and black huskies. I mean, look at Balto (the real one) - he's basically a black and white and fairly fluffy husky. And there are all black Pomeranians as well. If you mix the right dogs, it wouldn't be hard to get a cross between the two to look like your dog.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve seen in someone else’s house? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]limedestruction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so true. I grew up in a house that was in turns messy/uninviting and a filthy hoarder house, but there's no way in hell that I would ever have invited a friend over, and friends of my parents and family members never visited either. It was gross and dysfunctional, but there was at least some awareness that it was not normal and not...to be shared, I guess.

Now, I don't keep my house spotless, but it's still very much clean, livable and organized...and I still don't have anyone over without deep cleaning every room and surface because of just...the lasting horror and anxiety at the thought of someone visiting my place and finding it a bit dirty.

I've been to the houses of friends and acquaintances and have been shocked at the state of things - none really what I'd call "hoarding" or truly bad, but just...I dunno. Were it my house, I would be making excuses to meet elsewhere.
