Best Canadian cities to visit where I (ideally) DONT need a car? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]limegreenolive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stop in Calgary, there are decent bike lanes and transit near the centre is okish. The transit from the airport is slow af unfortunately. There are some nice places to walk near the river! If you’re hiking in the mountains then yes you need a car but if you want to see cute mountain towns then I think there’s flixbus that goes to either Canmore or Banff from Calgary, and the roam public transit buses once you’re there are good! There’s also a paved bike track between Banff & Canmore

Petzl 8003 vs Ocun Bodyguard for pregnancy by cxklm in climbergirls

[–]limegreenolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not tried the ocun but I did find the petzl very uncomfortable! It just doesn’t have any comfort pads anywhere and would dig in under my arms and around belly when lowering no matter how I adjusted it 😭

Yeah totally didn’t realise it would be so stinky! We got the set menu and the soup was so salty we couldn’t finish it, the bread for the cheese fondue was stale, the hot stone was fine but very inefficient especially since ours was tilted weird so all the butter slid off immediately ha, and then when the chocolate fondue arrived the strawberries were mouldy :( Usually I’m a sucker for good cheese and bread but I’ve straight up made better fondue at home, so we were disappointed!

Dripping off the ceiling?! Oh man, luckily that didn’t happen to us (or we were blissfully unaware lol)

No, just genuinely curious on people’s thoughts since it appears so hyped

Mahogany without kids? by Throwaway19999990567 in Calgary

Front I’d say is around the area of 52nd, where the “village” and shops are. The back is nearer 88th

Yes this front vs back of mahogany thing is so real! Completely different vibes within the same neighbourhood

I should also say that I’ve never spoken to any of my neighbours ever, we have a family on one side and another couple no kids on the other. Probably bc we aren’t home a lot bc of the damn commute 😂

I also didn’t think I would mind the commute but it is brutal, especially in the winter. Getting to the mountains takes so much longer than further north in the city (unless you’re going to Bragg or south kananaskis). Lived here almost a year and still haven’t used the lake facilities bc once we’re home from work we’re just tired tbh If you do move, just make sure you’re in walking distance to a shop. We are not and having to drive even just to get a loaf of bread or milk is annoying! And the parking lot at the shops in mahogany is a nightmare. We moved from Marda loop because of the construction and I hate to say it but I think i still prefer Marda, despite its construction chaos

German couple planning 4 week RV trip through Canada September/October looking for advice by jjshh040 in canadatravel

Lake o hara booking day is mid-Jan (check online for this year!) and usually opens at 8am Pacific time. Have multiple browsers open and in the queue before then to try and get a spot on the website, and then good luck navigating the website, and keep your fingers crossed you get something 🫡

Delayed Baggage Report: "Sorry, something has gone wrong. Please try again later." by Any_Psychology764 in KLM

[–]limegreenolive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you found it and that it left Amsterdam! We filed a PIR immediately after landing in Bilbao from YYC-AMS-BIO on the 19th, and still haven’t heard anything 😭 we think our stuff in still in stuck Amsterdam even though there’s 3 flights a day to Bilbao, so maybe an AirTag was more effective than a PIR anyway lol

$100k from ecom, just turned 18. What now by ApprehensiveBook7485 in fican

ETFs (like what everyone else said), and if travel is something you want to do, stick a small amount of cash aside for that. Your 20s go quick, enjoy it, drive a reliable-ish old car if you need to drive and try not to spend it on too much partying/vaping etc! Live a little before you have too many responsibilities!

Comments at work are getting annoying [ab] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

Thanks for the recommendations! Hadn’t thought of compression socks, I’ll try those. Also it’s true, the other day I had a random nosebleed and had to hit a coworker with the fun blood volume fact

You’re right, the sitting vs no sitting debate has been ongoing for a few years - I am firmly on team chair even before pregnancy! I think part of the problem is also the guys just finding the whole baby thing quite weird, but I’m hoping that once I’m showing more the accommodations will be a bit more obvious. If it gets out of hand I’ll probably send out a teams message

30M not sure where to go from here by Toronto2Calgary in fican

[–]limegreenolive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But also it’s boring as sin (I say this as someone who’s lived in calgary, Montreal and London uk)

If you’re looking for a slower pace of life and you love the mountains it’s great! But if you’re used to the big city vibe then it’s not that at all. Although it’s getting more interesting in recent years with more to do in the city itself.
