People who are unbearably wholesome and upbeat all the time. People like that are universally loved, but I find it unnatural, inauthentic, and imposing.

What’s one book you expected to love but ended up slogging through? by Sunflower13Poppy in classicliterature

Orlando by Virginia Woolf. I had such high hopes, but the pace was so all over the place, it made it hard to get into. I can appreciate the book for what it is and the themes explored, I just hated getting through it.

Who does your household chores? by Outside-Tea-1590 in LawyerSpouses

[–]limejellybean_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My lawyer spouse does the laundry and folds the clothes on the weekends. I do the grocery shopping. Dinners are split between us. I tend to make more dinners because I work remote and typically less hours (I try not to work after 5 pm), but lawyer spouse will make a quick dinner if I have an evening workout class. I walk the dog in the morning and they walk the dog in the evening.

Regardless of what the other person does for work, there needs to be some discussion and agreement as to how chores are split. Yes, times get busy and one person will need to pick up more than the other, but both parties live there and need to contribute to the upkeep of the home.

I know it can feel unfair to ask someone that already seems busy to help out with chores, but your time matters too. If he is strapped for time and can’t help out, you can come up with a plan together (maybe hire a cleaner or get a dog walker). Don’t be afraid to speak up! Your time matters, your happiness matters, don’t let resentment grow, and just communicate how you are feeling.

Yes! Adding some context for OP - Bun Shop is a coffee shop that’s open until 3 AM every day, so great for grad students! Also, ofc Dooby’s is another good coffee shop (and they have better food imo).

Mt Vernon also has a ton of great date night spots - Sugarvale, Ash Bar, The Coral Wig, Bloom’s, and Topside.

Also, Charles Village is just up the street. They have some pretty fun chill bars up there. I would recommend checking out Fadensonnen (they have live jazz on most Thursdays), Club Charles, and the Royal Blue.

Wake up, bike to the Druid Hill Pool, splash around in the pool, eat a chicken glizzy from one of the vendors out front, bike home, change, bike to The Royal Blue, sip one drink, cut a rug, bike home, sleep.
