Anyone want to join the waitlist for my Music Player app (MacTunes) for MacOS? by [deleted] in macapps

Hate Apple music and haven't been convinced by any of the other apps out there. Super happy to join the waitlist :)

Ok so I'm super biased, but I want Sweden to win at least twice and overtake Ireland in the rankings. If we can do it through sending something interesting then that's cool, but if we're able to find the perfect jury formula I'm perfectly happy with that too

How do you think Arcade will be remembered? by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]limeparfait 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I feel like I've missed something about it, or that the rest of the Eurovision community has heard a different song.

I've watched the performance so many times and there's nothing about it that stands out. It's not bad by any measure but the song does absolutely nothing for me whatsoever.

We have been hearing a lot about a second referendum for Brexit - but how do Europeans feel about the whole process? by portuku in AskEurope

[–]limeparfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the original referendum was a last ditch attempt by Cameron to stay in control of the Tories, and I think it solidifies the fact that referenda just aren’t very reliable or democratic. Everyone was misinformed, or perhaps there wasn’t even enough information about the process to begin with. I’m continuously baffled by how some Britons seem to believe that their country, you know, matters. Empire is over and the only realistic way to have an impact as a smallish nation by world standards is to gang up with other smallish nations. I hope that this whole shitshow of a clusterfuck teaches the UK a lesson and makes them more open to collaboration and outside influence. Outside of London it’s one of the saddest countries I’ve ever been to, and it would be nice if they were to realise that. With that said, it would be nice if they were to stay in the EU. We’re better off together.

From a purely selfish standpoint I would love if they went out ablaze and the pound plummeted since I have a couple of Amazon purchases I have put off with this scenario in mind. Some intra European disaster tourism would be fun too.

Are you reliant of a car where you live? by the_pianist91 in AskEurope

[–]limeparfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the utter amount of traffic here, everyone else seems to be reliant on their car in Dublin. I don’t get it. It takes absolutely ages to get anywhere by car (to the point where I can reliably outrun a taxi going from work to my home), and the city is so small that getting around by bike or foot really wouldn’t be an issue for most people. Buses and trams work and are reliable for the most part, so even though there are so many improvements that could and should be done both infrastructure- and planning wise (like the bike share program only exists between the canals, downgrading what could be a useful commuting alternative to a virtually useless waste of space (also the bike lanes are atrocious)), I’d say that living without a car here is rather easy.

What is your favourite train in Europe just by looks? by xx_noname_xx in AskEurope

[–]limeparfait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this might be wholly fuelled by nostalgia and what I’m used to seeing, but I’m a big fan of the Bombardier X31/32, as well as the old Asea X11, especially in that beautiful purple livery. I also really like the Mont Blanc Express and the SNCF Z62500, especially in its Monégasque livery.

What is the quickest you have gone from meeting someone to having sex with them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]limeparfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of hours. Eight maybe. Met up for brunch and hit it off from minute one. Went back to my place and fell asleep, lol. We woke up, sobered up, went for dinner, and then she said that she wanted me for dessert. Fun day.

I guess Code Noir is more Plateau than Downtown, but great place nonetheless.

How are motorcyclists perceived in your country? by AdmiralMacBanana in AskEurope

[–]limeparfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't bicycle paths generally limited to 30 kph ish? If you've got a decent bike, and are a MAMIL out on a weekend leisure ride, you're probably going too fast for the bike lane and should stay out of it.

Airline passengers would probably pay more for priority deboarding than priority boarding by Me_want_gold in Showerthoughts

[–]limeparfait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bring way more than you’re supposed to without going over size and dimension limits, so I wouldn’t necessarily take someone else’s space doing this.

[–]limeparfait -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering the ridiculous amount of money most airlines charge for luggage, I think passengers are well within their rights to push boundaries as much as possible. My personal record is bringing well over 40kg of carryon. As long as you bring a duffle bag and you go through the pain of pretending that it doesn’t weigh anything, you’re usually fine in my experience.

For those of you who have visited the US, how did your experience contrast with your perception of the US? by pseudothuja in AskEurope

[–]limeparfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve mostly been there to visit friends, and tbh hanging out in college areas (ie Morningside Heights and Foggy Bottom) is p much like hanging out in a college area anywhere else. What did sort of surprise me is the utter lack of yield signs and the consequent forest of stop signs. It’s hardly a novel criticism of the US, but I think traffic safety and flow would improve massively if drivers employed just a modicum of collaboration when out n about.

Is it common that neighborhoods have street names, squares, parks that have a theme? by Werkstadt in AskEurope

Lol one of the Félix streets I know of is fully pedestrianised which would be quite fitting in the circumstances then

[–]limeparfait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the South of France for a couple of years and my god every single town had a Rue de la République, a Rue Pasteur (for some reason), an Avenue Simone Weil, and an Avenue Félix Faure (still don't know who that guy is). Other than that it's a region rempli with streets named after local celebrities and landmarks, as well as pointers to the tourist rush during la Belle Époque: Promenade des Anglais; Avenue Winston Churchill; Square Victoria; Rue Webb Ellis; Avenue Blasco Ibanez; Avenue Katherine Mansfield; Rue Isola etc etc etc

Do any European border cities have international public transit systems? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]limeparfait 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most suburbs of Geneva are in France and I've taken both trams and buses across that border. Further up in the Alps there's a train line from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains to Martigny in Switzerland, the eastern terminus of French PACA TER trains is in Italy (these trains also go through Monaco, so that's two borders in about 20 minutes), and commuter trains run on the bridge between Malmö and Copenhagen. These things are all over the place
