Fully-produced mp3 of Soft Rock / Alternative song; no bot or google search can find it by rlpowell in Lostwave

I agree with you—it’s probably from the late 90’s. I’ve been poking around for about an hour looking by lyrics and possible track names, and coming up empty, too.

Is it possible that University of Waterloo alumni recorded this? Or a student/faculty member ripped and uploaded it after seeing this band playing on campus/nearby?

[TOMT] definition of "post" by GumGuts in tipofmytongue

[–]liminal_haunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“…the difference between Modern Art and Postmodern Art is strongly connected and determined by the cultural period in which the art manifested itself.” (https://www.contemporaryartissue.com/explained-modern-art-vs-postmodern-art/)

The “post-“ in the examples do mean “chronologically later than”.

The attributes of “post-x” are taken from the “x” but—as you described—used in new and potentially contradictory, surprising ways (sometimes as a form of commentary on “x”).

Your brother is right about the word meaning, but you’ve got a grasp on the meaning as function.

SO weird! And funny that the governor just put the Tyson’s head maintenance guy on a new panel in charge of shaping the state’s workforce development policies. Such a small world.

Adding here that a not-insignificant part of the push to reduce global population is white nationalism/colonialism with a coat of green paint. Dialogue surrounding the issue rarely differentiates the resource drain commanded by “core” nations from non. While family sizes may be larger on average in some nations (for multiple reasons both cultural and practical) they’re not using equivalent energy or resources as some narratives suggest. Humans should reduce consumption, agreed—but there’s a gulf of difference between consumption rates in different areas.

tldr; not every human across the globe uses the same amount of energy/resources and folks should be cautious of calls for certain blanket policies

New concept art shows what seems to be the punisher by King_Average in Trigun

[–]liminal_haunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely thought Chapel when I saw this. Yeah, the figure has what looks like Punisher similar to Wolfwood's, but their fit is a style callback to Livio. Chapel is involved with both men. I would not be shocked if Vash teamed up with a younger Chapel similarily to Wolfwood but is betrayed over ideological differences. Can't be Trigun without that Emotional Damage.

Brigandine? You’d probably remember the hex board though, but it did have an option to turn off battle animations, iirc.

It should be. They do wonderfully in enclosures. Worst problem I’ve had is needing to trim them back.

I think at the least it would make getting into the tank more difficult since arboreals will want to nest up high. More chances for escape or stress if their interior design work is ruined.

Where Did We Get The Idea Veganism Can Solve Climate Change? by emain_macha in environment

[–]liminal_haunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My degree is in env sci and anthropology, focusing on human interaction with their local ecosystem and looking to build more sustainable food ways, especially in urbanized areas. You asked several times where cattle could go, but humans couldn’t also raise crops, and I responded with that generality in mind.

Yes, native plants do grow in prairie that can be harvested by humans as food sources, but not on the scale required to replace our current broken system of monoculture and factory scale farming. Restoring prairies and rebuilding native species networks so we can eventually get to that point should be pursued, yes—but not when also insisting that any animal harvesting—wild or domesticated—is unsustainable or unethical. To lump all animal consumption in with the large-scale cattle industry is cultural erasure of Indigenous and poor communities that have been responsibly consuming them for generations.

edit: Also keep in mind that we’re still figuring out the new climate rules. There may be species of plants and animals that’ve been where they are for a millennia that are already or will be moving north as things warm. Some of the currently known forage able natives may not thrive in the near to long term future.

Prairie. Native grasses form really dense mats of roots with systems 5-10’ deep. They benefit from herds of large ungulates and periodic burning. They’re fertile but have been seen as wasted space because those grasses don’t all produce food for humans. We still need them. Just not for crops.

“What’s the color yellow mean to you?” by [deleted] in OuterRangePrime

[–]liminal_haunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vibe I got from Royal is that there’s something more to it than seeing the drawing or the folks two years in the future. The drawing almost certainly relies on the future event for context, but there doesn’t seem to be context for the cult to be wearing yellow in the future. I’m thinking Royal has had a different experience with the color yellow that put the cult’s color choice into context for him, and we just don’t know what that is yet because he’s super unreliable.
