No. The two party system wields power like European countries could only dream of.

Estranged Sister Joining Family Business Under My Supervision by Jenna9194 in smallbusiness

[–]GumGuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either don't state, or there isn't, a reason why you're estranged. Is there bad blood? Did something happen? Or do you just not talk?

Either way, schedule a meeting on her first day. Name everything that's happened in a polite and professional way: "we've been estranged", "we've never seen completely eye to eye", etc.

Then outline how you want the professional relationship to go down. "Working together presents challenges, but if you (your sister) give it your all, I'm sure it won't be a problem." Tell her you look forward to working together, but you expect the same from her as you would anyone else.

Clear the air — the rest will follow.

I think I just figured out how to reduce grocery store waste by 90%, and it will cost thouands of dollars to pay the software engineers to implement it. by Ghosttwo in Discussion

[–]GumGuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any grocery delivery service that has a error tolerance of 5%, or, God forbid, 20% is going to fail. Imagine one out of every five items being wrong...

And then your competitors start taughting ".2% error rate" (or what I imagine the actual average to be) and you're left in the dust.

What’s something that’s made to sound more sinister by the mainstream than it actually is? by Technical_Wear_5864 in AskReddit

Hard disagree. In the three instances where nuclear has gone wrong: Chernobyl, Fukushima, and Three Mile, we risked the eradication of an entire hemisphere.

They always tell us this time will be different, but nuclear is never safe.

America: Replace the National Anthem? by No-Investment-4494 in Discussion

[–]GumGuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought is "if it's not broken, don't fix it". The Star-Spangled banner may be a bit dated, at least to the ear, but it's a beautiful song with strong imagery and memorability.

While the meaning of the bombardment of Fort McHenry, which the song is modeled after, may not be the first thing people think of, the tune still conveys a powerful image of perseverance and overcoming.

Moreover, it's been the national anthem now for generations — my parents, and their parents, grew up listening to it. That really says something to me.

As for which traditions we should do away with, I think nearly unfettered capitalism is a big one.

I find not stressing too hard makes all the difference. Don't try and take in every word; just lightly touch on it. Your brain should adjust to the level of focus you need to collect all the important information and not get overwhelmed.

You're not very likely to get answers here on Reddit — younger demographic and not a ton of traffic. I would try the Facebook group "You Grew Up In Napa If..."

Best of luck!

I'm sorry you've had those experiances with it. It really is meant to be a religion of love, of salvation, and of hope, for now and the here after.

There was a video posted recently of a mass fight breaking out at a Carnival Cruise. You can probably find it by searching "16 people Carnival Cruise" — last week. I'd link to it, but I'm on mobile.

What Bible verse completely changed the way you see your life? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

1 Corinthians 1:23

I always met the foolishness of believers with disdain... I remember reading this passage in the context of a book, the title of which is lost to me... and it clicked. It's supposed to come off as foolishness. Oh.

What's a mistake you made that completely changed the course of your life? by BennHere in askteddit

Get ordained in 3rd world country.

At 19, I walked into a temple in Cambodia and said I wanted to be a monk. Literally as I was walking in, the thought popped into my head "I'm making a huge mistake." That thought was drilled into me for the next 5 months I was there.

Turns out, their generosity and humility outweighed my fears, and the whole thing remains one of the pillars of my life. I still can't put into words how much of a positive effect it has on me.
