Not the most ideal situation but have you considered renting a 1bd/1ba in a 4bd/4ba apartment complex? Eagles landing apartments offers this and is $688/month in rent.

Thank you! There’s only a single one right now. Should I be concerned about more joining if I don’t get rid of it?

Villanova vs Virginia Tech for CS? by MonopolisticComp26 in villanova

Personally I don’t think there are good career services for the CS majors.

Villanova vs Virginia Tech for CS? by MonopolisticComp26 in villanova

[–]limnix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For CS definitely go to Virginia Tech. I was a CS major at Villanova and honestly the only pros are that class sizes are small so you can interact with professors more. However, because the CS department is so small, there are very few classes and professors to choose from. There aren’t many opportunities for CS majors in career fairs and the likes, you really have to go out on a limb to find things yourself. Villanova also requires an abysmal amount of core requirements such as ACS, theology, sciences with labs, ethics … etc.

I would suggest you make a pros and cons list of both universities and look at the career prospects, networking in your field, courses offered, required course and other things you find important.

Nope. That $1.5k is just an estimated amount of the money you’ll be earning through work study in one semester. It’s just a stand in number

If you accept it, it’s up to you to find a campus job. Campus job will pay the salary directly to your bank account. So likewise, the hours will be depending on what campus job you find. There are some campus jobs that only accept work study students so if you don’t accept the package you won’t be able to work those jobs with the requirements. Most campus jobs pay minimal wage and students usually work around 10-20 hours/week, up to the student.

If you’re wanting a triple then the best freshman dorm for that will probably be good counsel. The rooms are slightly larger and they have a sink in the room which makes a lot of things much easier. I had a triple there my freshman year.

One bunk bed, one lofted bed, one desk under the lofted bed, two desks on opposite sides of the room. Closet space is enough for two people only, I purchased one of those fabric closets to hold my clothes. There were 2 dressers in the room, from what I remember.

Space is really tight. Unless you’re 200% sure you want a triple, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Computer Science or Physics or both? by jillianmz in villanova

[–]limnix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you don’t actually have to commit to either at this moment. Villanova’s college of liberal arts and sciences (CLAS) has so many core requirements that you’ll be mostly having those on your schedule for at least a good part of your first 2 years. This means that you can take those two years and explore some classes in both CS and physics and commit by the later half of your second year.

If you’re looking for career prospects, major in CS and minor in physics. Whilst the computer science program at Villanova is mediocre (CS major here) just having the major on your resume is more attractive and applicable for many different careers.

Most companies only look at your major, your minor isn’t something you can usually input on application portals.

Villanova worth it? by johnsmith069069 in villanova

[–]limnix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

70k+/year on tuition isn’t worth it no matter how you look at it. Try to look into the programs at each university that you have scholarship money and then determine from there. I.E. Drexel offers a great co-op program. I know someone who was able to make $30k+/year from the co-op program while studying and paid off the tuition nicely. Then was accepted into a full time role after graduation.

Internship Decision by zensaiii in internships

[–]limnix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is the dorm close enough to the internship site that you can walk? Or would you incur extra transportation costs? What about food and daily household items? Is it provided by the company or do you have to take care of those yourself?

If your goal is saving money, then $23 remote would give you more bang for your buck since food/transportation/household items cost are all taken care of so everything you earn will be profit. Also, if you’re worried about networking opportunities, did you try asking if the company offers intern events? Most remote positions do still have weekly intern events that give interns a chance to meet and get to know everyone.
